in response to comments about the trailer being earthbound and the lack of otherworldly scenes, the fx shots can take quite a bit of time.
i just met someone who worked on k9 and he said they finished filming a long time ago and they're taking a year to do the fx [mostly because k9 is pretty low budget but still..]
District 9 ... which was Alien Nation + The Fly. plus the demands on my 'suspension of disbelief' was draining.
guy going into the alien slums armed with a clipboard to evict [i don't remember how many] powerful aliens, people strolling into high-security areas, alien ship hovering over South Africa for over 2 decades and the rest of the world doesn't seem to be interested, the depiction of blacks ... prostitutes, really?
i get it that it's allegory but the director chose a 'realistic' way to tell the story with documentary style interviews and shaky cams... the message, however relevant it was, was delivered in a ham-fisted manner
yeah, nice integration of 3D and live footage, great action scenes at the end and all that but to me it fails at being good science fiction
