@kschang: This all looks good in theory. Until you need to remodel a unit, the boiler blows, the roof needs replaced or you can't find good tenants. And then you need to get the loan itself, which you can't just do with your good looks. There's a lot of ways this all can go wrong, take it from a current landlord that has an empty unit that needs fixing. Cheaper to do it myself, but there goes all my free time this month.
@septentriones: And the lava lamp is found in many many studios. It's a home studio thing, you'll see tons of them online in people's little homemade studios. I have one in mine.
@Steampunk Jammer: It's called discretionary income, and a free country. We all end up in the same place, eventually. Some want to spend the time til then like this.
@Nick Hall: And kind of a good fencer. My favorite is the Mark of Zorro. Awesome Tyrone Power hero reveal and then kick's Rathbone's ass. You can thank that movie for every lightsaber fight ever.
@Sigusmundo: Until you can prove that the actual cases of autism increased, as opposed to an increase in "diagnosed" autism rises don't even start with finding a causal link. Prove there's a real increase, not just some chart.
Also, cell phones, corn frutose, internet usage, air bags, rap and the wearing of fleece all increased in the '90s. Causal link? Maybe!
@mentalsticks: Once you make the original backup and it's incremental from then on, the time is minimal. It's not really very expensive nor time consuming. It doesn't take time away from my family. We all need to do maintenance in our lives to prevent bad things, such as patching the roof, changing the oil in the car or chopping wood on a nice day. I neglected lubing my lawn mower when I bought it and an axle bearing seized and wore it out. I paid hundreds of dollars because I failed to do a twenty minute job.
It's a choice, like life insurance and taking time to review your finances yearly. Risk tolerance is a personal preference and some like more risk vs less. There's no one answer fits all.
I have all the negatives from our wedding in a fireproof box. Ask someone whose house burned with all of their family photos whether they want them back.
