Weird hypothesis, but it does provide a (very strange) explanation for why Mars' magnetic field stopped. Kind of grasping at straws, but that how a lot of good science starts - with wild and often improbably ideas...

Last year was great, and I remember having conversations with some event staff about attendance. They had the same reaction on Saturday concerning the total sell out of tickets. The lines and crowds were insane, but only if you didn't think ahead...

@Citizen Kang: Yeah, I totally agree on the freak show aspect. We only went Thursday and Friday for a few hours too. We spent more time cruising around downtown, hanging in the gas-light district, and going to see Richard Cheese and a burlesque show. I love the carnival atmosphere and the the forums, but your right about just getting in, hitting your target vendors and artists, and then bail for the sunlight and some ribs at that rib-shack where they filmed a scene for Top Gun.

@qbrad: Regardless, read the "comic/graphic novel", it's Alan Moore at his best, and pretty good social/political commentary for the 80's too. It's scope and depth is as good as it gets.

@Ambiguous Blob 2.0: I have the same concern about Dr. Manhattan, but we can probably overlook it, especially from how the rest of the film looks.

This will definitely be one to wait for a deluxe special edition to be released, kind of like Hell Boy II. There's just too much history involved with this film, and the creative process behind it (sketches, interviews, set designs, etc) will probably give me hours or nerdtastic fun, on top of just watching the film.

My god, I actually remember this ad! Crap I feel old.

Fembots always gave me the creeps; that faceplate full of cameras and circuitry embodied robotic terror to me, at least until I saw "The Demon Seed" or the"The Forbin Project" on late night TV. HAL creeped me out too, but I only understood why after I actually read 2001.

As low budget as this flick was, I loved it as a kid. It was on a regular rotation on the USA network for what seemed like years...It still runs on one of the Comcast HD channels from time to time.

Anything with Michael Ironsides as a deranged cyborg can't be bad, at least in retrospect.

Hmmm... How about the "Big crunch" and the end of the universe. Read a short story by Stephen Baxter about this, rather cool as humanity listens to all the fledgling civilizations squealing goodbye, and the universe contracts towards Earth.

Of course, unless humanity suddenly finds a way to fold space and escape into a bubble universe, there's no opportunity for a sequel.
