Last night's M&Cs were cupcakes (and in my dorm, GONE in less than 15 minutes). Nothing says "going here was the right decision" like a sugar coma. (And then hardcore studying that inspired thoughts of just letting Jorge eat me, but I digress)
"Recently, studies have shown that there is a 60% decrease in HIV transmission in circumcised males compared to uncircumcised males."

In third world countries where HIV is a huge problem, and condoms are not very frequently used or accessible.

Circumcision to prevent HIV wouldn't do much in the first world.
@cleverpeach: @sbonner09: In the fervor of youth that is strong...
@FrederickSiren: What I've noticed is that the death of a show seems to follow certain actors- the death of the shows I've seen them in, anyway. Jewel Staite, anyone? Firefly. Wonderfalls. Dead Like Me. Maybe it's following Morena Baccarin too? Or just female Firefly actors in general- Summer Glau WAS a significant part of TSCC, after all. IT'S A CONSPIRACY! (or not)
@David Stever, Man: What's so wrong with a woman having a short haircut? I think she looks fantastic- she has the bone structure and facial shape to be able to pull off just about any cut, and the pixie cut really shows off her beauty. I mean, I guess I don't really know what your definition of 'girl' is, but I don't think chopping her hair off has made her look in any way like a man. That's kind of impossible.
Actually, dance music, techno, or ridiculously upbeat indie pop.
I have no idea how that would fit into my 184 sq. foot, double, dorm room, which is already big by dorm room standards. Also, I am poor*. *side effect of tuition + room/board, even with scholarship.
@jesbelle: That book pretty much killed all innocence and faith in writing that I may have had previous to reading it. Everything was just major fail. While reading, I was thinking, "Well, at least there will be a massive battle at the end." NOPE. Thanks, Shield of Love. And for fuck's sake, Renesmee? What kind of name is that?
@FrankN.Stein: actually, the baby basically murders all the bones in her torso and then, when baby wants out, the magical vampires bite it out. ;D with that scene (actually, just all of the fourth book), Stephenie Meyers went from delusional to full-blown scary, 'sparkly stalker vampires seem totally sane', 'I am honestly scared of this woman's mind', total psycho.
Actually, in the fourth book the annoying baby (later named Renesmee, wtf) breaks her ribs and almost kills her blah blah blah, but it doesn't get out of the womb on its own. Because it's half-vampire, Mary Sue's womb became covered with vampire skin or some bullshit like that. And only vampire fangs and werewolf claws can cut through vampire skin or whatever, so the magical Cullens BITE THE BABY OUT which basically would have killed Mary Sue, except Sparkly Stalker injects her with shitloads of his ~venom~ so SHE becomes a vampire, and it is a horrifying, unbelievably traumatizing scene to read and all-around gross. Yes, I read the fourth book. I can honestly say it was the worst book I have ever read, and that is saying quite a lot. If all this was TL;DR: baby is evil mother-killer in the womb. Sparkly vampires BITE BABY OUT. Reader's innocence is TOTALLY DESTROYED.
I understand that the point is the price relative to others in the same range of cameras, as well as it having really nice features and that it's shiny, but still. How is this affordable? $650 is a lot of money (and yes, again, I get that it's for a GOOD, DSLR camera) if you're not a professional, or really, really into photography. I mean, I love photography. But I'm not going to spend that much on a camera. Then again, I'm a poor college student, so whatever.
Personally, I find reality way better. [heritage.stsci.edu]
@HomicidalUnicorns: though I dearly, dearly wish a third season of it could be made.
Even if Fox changes their mind about Sarah Connor Chronicles, it can't be made. Summer Glau is doing Dollhouse, and Lena Headey has been cast for the HBO adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire (as Cersei Lannister, HELL YES).
Personally, I'd think a guy was pretty awesome if he used that. A bit more of an obsessed fan than I can usually stand (which is saying something- I'm ridiculously obsessed with my various fandoms), but still awesome.
I recall receiving one a few years ago from Harry Potter. the message was rather generic, I'd won the lottery or needed to get a penis enlargement (quite helpful tips; I don't have one) or something like that. and then, under said message, the typical word salad to bypass spam filtering, except that said salad was made up of Harry Potter characters and various sexual terms. I vaguely recall something about 'Ron Hermione broomstick slash'.
@hardman.ethan: A default browser chooser? Safari's preferences have one built in. Safari->preferences->'General' panel->'Default Web Browser'. Any link you open will open in that chosen browser. (I hope that's what you meant- I'm not really clear on whether this article is referring to something like that, or something entirely different)
@tiakivla: ...I didn't intend for that to be so long when I started writing, but I guess I really needed to vent, haha. It's just that, since I made my decision to attend MHC, People have just been SO dumb about it.
In four days, I will officially be a first year at Mount Holyoke. Seeing them ranked so high on a college list such as that, which doesn't as heavily rely on mainly prestige and endowment (I'm looking at you, US News & World Report), is refreshing, and quite wonderful for my confidence. I'm still fairly bitter about the entire college application process last year, as are many of my peers. We were the largest graduating class the US has ever had, and many of us applied to an exorbitant amount of schools (14 for me!). As a result, wait lists were huge, and financial aid was spread thin, which the economy didn't help at all. To be honest, I'd be going to Reed this year if I'd been able to afford it, but they gave me very, VERY little in financial aid- apparently, they've also stopped doing need-blind admission. In contrast, Mount Holyoke has given me a large scholarship that includes things like honors tutorials and funding for a summer internship. 24% of the students in my class are international; 25% are American minorities. MHC is known for being incredibly diverse, and I look forward to that. Yes, we obviously are majorly lacking in gender diversity, haha, but who really cares? Most of my friends in high school were male, sure, but it was more a result of similar interests and attitudes than my preferring men to women. Even so, most of the people I know- of both genders- were surprised that I was even applying to non-coed schools. It's unbelievably frustrating, the sorts of attitudes people have towards women's colleges. Aside from the utterly condescending use of the phrase 'girl's school' instead of 'women's college', whether intended to mean that or not, people seem really weirded out by my going to a place where there are No Male Students or whatever. No, I'm not a lesbian. Yes, I'm a feminist, but no, I am not a man-hating, castration-free-for-all-advocating feminazi, though I obviously, like, totally appreciate the immediate connection people have between those two concepts. For fuck's sake, I support equality, not superiority. People my age can be so infuriatingly idiotic towards feminism, or just having strong opinions on any issue at all. It's not even a case of being labelled, more so being lumped into a specific group. I'm attending a school without men? I'm obviously a lesbian. Or I hate men. I chose to include women's colleges in my rather large batch of college applications because I'm comfortable with the idea, NOT because I don't want to be around men. I don't care THAT much that there won't be as many guys around, but I know they will be there. Contrary to popular opinion, there are, in fact, humans of the male persuasion within a ten male radius. Shockingly enough, MHC even has male professors. Like, OMG. In addition, from what I've learned from researching during the college application process, many women's colleges have some sort of connection to coed schools. Mount Holyoke, for example, is part of the Five College Consortium- a significant part of my decision to apply. There will be men in some of my classes at MHC, and I fully intend to take advantage of the Consortium and take classes at other schools. I'm going to a women's college because I want to feel more comfortable and self-confident in a classroom environment. I want to be surrounded by women who feel the same way. Sure, I like guys. But my going to a school that they cannot attend does not = forsaking the male gender and becoming a nun. I can, and will, have male friends while in college. I can, and will, date men during those four years. Why is that so difficult for people to understand? I am going to college to decide what I want to do with my life, to explore different fields, and, most importantly, to learn, and that in no way requires the presence of males.
