<![CDATA[Comments from twophrasebark]]> <![CDATA[Comments from twophrasebark]]> <![CDATA[twophrasebark commented on The Ones Who Disappear]]> My cellphone broke about 18 months ago. I have still not replaced it.

At first it was kind of weird, but now when I see people attached to their phones, I realize that it really sucks your time away and doesn't particularly increase your productivity or happiness.

I'm not particularly impressed about foregoing email - it's very unneeded.

As far as Stallman goes: it would be very impressive if he did not use the internet, period. But not using the web, but still using Lynx... IDGI. Is it a symbolic protest against... um... graphics?

<![CDATA[twophrasebark commented on Would You Watch Alien 5?]]> @hakubak: Prequel. Hmm. That's an interesting idea. That could work for the Alien storyline.

But it wouldn't work for Weaver gettin' paid.

<![CDATA[twophrasebark commented on It's Crunch Time On Stargate Atlantis]]> I like SGA, but you could describe every episode as: "More stuff happens like last week."

Maybe that's why I like it. It's like the Mickey D's of Sci-Fi.

Maybe we should start putting up fliers in Ft. Lauderdale that look like this:

Roy Krause, CEO Spherion Corp.
Ask me about Melissa Amschwand.

<![CDATA[twophrasebark commented on Scientists Identify Genes that Could Turn Ordinary People into Supergeniuses (or Mindless Drones)]]> This was actually tried before by this guy Prescott Bush, who was a Senator in the 1950s. Using technology from Area 51, he tried to turn his young grandson into a super genius. Sadly, he pushed the button that said "S" believing it meant "super" when it actually meant...

...well, you get the idea.

<![CDATA[twophrasebark commented on This Year's Terminator Will Be Jealous, Unstable]]> @Charlie Jane Anders: I didn't realize that.

On the other hand, it would be cool to see a scene where you see John and Cameron waking up in bed together and nothing else is said.

But I guess Ron Moore isn't writing this show. Oh well.

]]>
<![CDATA[twophrasebark commented on Gort Gets His Vengeance In The Day The Earth Stood Still Trailer]]> I though the trailer looked pretty cool. And somehow, Keanu's robot acting actually works for the part.

]]>
<![CDATA[twophrasebark commented on This Year's Terminator Will Be Jealous, Unstable]]> John is a supposedly a teenager.

What would you be doing if you were 17 year-old male with a hot humanoid robot that obeys your commands?

Really, seriously, the show needs to address this.

<![CDATA[twophrasebark commented on Stargate Atlantis Season 5: New Aliens And Cameos]]> I like the fact that Atlantis and SG-1 use all the standard sci-fi plots repeatedly, even their own. It's all done with a wink and a nod. It's not like they're trying to make BSG or anything.

<![CDATA[twophrasebark commented on How To Get A Passport Fast]]> No no no.

Nooooooooo.

Sigh.

Please don't abuse this service!!! It's not for people who "forgot" to fill out a passport application or renewal. It's supposed to be for emergencies. Or for when you did fill out a passport application and never got a response from the very messed up and slow passport processing.

<![CDATA[twophrasebark commented on "Ghost" Photographs Created via Quantum Entanglement]]> There was a really interesting short story I read once where man invented the ability to travel by some kind of quantum teleportation, but everyone reported having a completely different trip upon returning.

As in, three of us beam to the Grand Canyon, spend the day and come back. And we all spent the day together - and all have completely different versions of what happened.

It was very interesting.

<![CDATA[twophrasebark commented on Resident Evil 4 Could Send The Army Of Naked Alices To War]]> I like these movies for some reason. They're just completely mindless and Mila is in every scene. What could be bad?

]]>
<![CDATA[twophrasebark commented on Gaiman, Zelazny and More Coming To Your iPod]]> I liked Scott's writing but can't buy any of his work anymore due to his open hatred towards gay and lesbians. This is not speculation, this is based on his repeated comments in interviews.

There is kind of a strange standard regarding such a stance. If he was openly anti-semitic or racist, wouldn't that be a show stopper for most people? You would just say: Sorry, no thanks, you're not going to be accepted by mainstream society.

But hatred towards gay and lesbians doesn't receive quite the condemnation.

I will simply not buy or support anything he is involved with. Period. And I have to ask Steve Feldman: would you work with some who made racist or anti-semitic comments? How is this different?

Therefore, Cheer is good and wise. Thank you, Cheer.

<![CDATA[twophrasebark commented on Why Won't Krystal Respond To Their Customers?]]> Funny - not only does Krystal taste like White Castle, they have the same kind of "dedication" to customer service. I once got violently sick after eating at White Castle. Not sick like "oh I just ate White Castle" but sick like "I feel really ill [vomit] I think I have food poisoning [more vomiting]."

I wrote and complained. In their written response, they accused me of making up the story and enclosed a refund check that had under the endorsement a statement saying I wouldn't sue them.

It was all very confidence building.

]]>
<![CDATA[twophrasebark commented on Adobe: "It Would Have Been A Pleasure To Assist You With This Issue. [Unfortunately, We're Totally Incompetent]"]]> I stand by what I wrote.

The customer had some weird expectations and is not that credible in my opinion. What Consumerist reader would expect that someone in email customer service is going to be able to have someone in phone customer support call you?

When has that ever happened?

What Consumerist reader would think that "a serial number could be sent in advance?"

When has that ever happened?

In addition, getting technical support for a product is always much more difficult. I'm afraid some of you are misinterpreting what I wrote. I agree that it sucks, but if you give up this easily when having problems with software, you won't be getting much software.

Overall, based on the OP's post, I would bet with about 95 percent certainty that she did not properly follow the directions regarding what software qualified for the upgrade.

Also: Why did the customer WAIT for days and days for answer from email. Why didn't she use the live chat she mentioned? Wouldn't most of us looked for a phone number if it was obvious their email system wasn't providing a reply?

<![CDATA[twophrasebark commented on Would You Like To "Opt-In" To Your Bank's Overdraft Fees? Tell The Federal Reserve!]]> I agree that opt-in or opt-out, just the OPTION to have this will be great!

I can't believe this got by Bushco. I suspect they just don't understand what it is the Reserve is doing.

]]>
<![CDATA[twophrasebark commented on Would You Like To "Opt-In" To Your Bank's Overdraft Fees? Tell The Federal Reserve!]]> @NoWin: We actually have a socialist and capitalist system here in the U.S.

Private industry is often unwilling to put in place certain safeguards for consumers, and when your much beloved deregulation leaves us with the majority of banks owned by less than a dozen financial institutions, choices for the consumer becomes very limited. This is when some rules are helpful. Believe it or not, you might have noticed that when left to its own devices, the banking industry tends to keep going bankrupt. This happens a few times every century in our country and the consequences are painful.

As people like you are wont to say, if you don't like it, vote with your feet. Move away to another country.
