@akacrash: They did see it coming. The problem is money, not engineering. Nobody is buying the islands so they are eroding away without maintenance. It's just like when you see a failed housing development all covered in weeds. It's not like the developer didn't know how weeds work.
@ManchuCandidate: They're not stupid. They did know it. The problem isn't that they didn't know how water works, the problem is that the development basically failed and the money left, so they couldn't finish.
@a_blackpanther: The problem is that real estate sucks and nobody is buying the islands, so there isn't as much money to nice them up. This is less "bad engineering" and more "failed development going to seed"
@takuhii: Light behaves differently in different gases. When light shines through an atmosphere, we can measure the spectrum that comes through and determine atmospheric composition.
@Michael Interbartolo III: Did you read about the heist? There were time locks and an oxygen free room to get through. There was danger and timing involved. It sounds like good stuff for a movie to me.
@OutlawDominus: I'm in the south and I don't even know how they could be more than an annoyance. One or two get in the house sometimes, but that's not really a huge deal.
@W10002: I figured out where it was from. When the 7 years number was floating around, they were expecting a higher cost per performance. They were able to make each one cheaper since then.
It's STILL highly unlikely since 2-3 years requires them to sell out constantly, which is absolutely not happening.
@Rusty Van Horn: I mean, if you really wanted to do it, you've got the method most LIKELY to succeed, but what most people don't realize is that they try to run your tag before initiating the stop for exactly that reason. If they get close enough to get you on camera behind the wheel BEFORE turning on the lights, you're still screwed.
@Swingle: There's a movement to not teach ANY math till around 7th grade to prevent the burnout and allow for them to discover concepts on their own in advance.
@StandardResponse: Without a proper oxygen mix, a hydrogen balloon would just make a whiff and a small puff of fire, with most of the hydrogen escaping unburned.
@leftatmars: When it gets high enough to stop rising, the atoms are very far apart, so currently there isn't a congruent layer of helium up there, just scattered atoms within a certain range.
@fluffywarthog1029: It actually is regulated. There was a shortage a couple years ago and it was rationed. Nobody noticed except those of us working with balloons at the time.
@ampersandparade is a real boy: Did you see where the beach was closed because of rip currents? What exactly would you have had him do? If he'd been in the gulf, people would be ripping him for risking his daughters' safety for PR purposes.
