Simple test: Give it a GI Joe and a Barbie. If one of them ends up in its vagina, it's a girl.
I thought there were only three Beastie Boys. There are four now?

Also, I always thought he was calling himself "Mike D." I guess it was "Mike P."

I should go over my old CDs. I used to love No Sleep till Belinsky.

You mean, you don't think that carrying around an egg for a few days in high school is enough?
Looking at today's Crosstalk, I'm thinking it might be time to create a #catstalk forum.
Absolutely better for everyone if the owner / loved one is there. I've held a few cats in their final moments (in one lucky case, it was at home). It's sad, of course, but imagine how peaceful it is for the animal. #crosstalk
It's conspicuously overlookable. Sounds like a good idea. #crosstalk
I can't wait to see you there; I'll bring the cat photos. #crosstalk
Ironically, it was when I began training for the 2008 race across Nova Scotia that I started on a path to putting back on the weight I'd lost in 2006 and -7. I was on a self-imposed calorie restriction diet, down to 1600 cal/day. I dropped from 192 to 167 in a few months and kept it off for a long time. When I started training for the race, I got to eat more, but when it was over, my body was still super-charged and I was nursing injuries that resulted in two arthro repairs (both of my medial menisci) as well as some tendinitis. But I didn't hold back on the snacking (all healthy food -- but lots of it) and eventually saw my weight approaching 200 again. It's down near 190 now, and I'm planning to unicycle much more often and to snack a bit less. #crosstalk
I just got back from unicycling 33.5 miles. My goal of 100 for the week looks doable. Now I'm in a well-deserved bubble bath. #crosstalk
Goodness me. I saw a woman with schmutz on her forehead and forgot about this special day.

Happy Schmutz Wednesday, goyim!

(Ya got somethin'.)

Those are some powerful photographs. #crosstalk
What Snaffy said. There is no reasoning with 18-month-olds, so you need to make it clear that the behavior is unacceptable AND that there are dependable consequences that are non-violent and that the kid can understand and will dislike. Also, sometimes kids need a moment to get out of the mood, so removing the kid from the environment where they're having a fit is a great idea.

I think we started reasoning with our kids when they were 2.5 or 3, but it depends on the kid, the depth of their despair, the environment, and other factors. Our 3 kids probably accounted for only 5 of the earth's tantrums, and most of those were because my son's bloodsugar level had dropped and he needed food.

Distractions don't work at that age unless they're even more upsetting than what's bothering the kid, so putting on a favorite video, for example, isn't going to work. #crosstalk

I'd avoid the name-on-the-tattoo thing, too, but in your case, I might make an exception. There's also the possibility of using just her initial(s).

As for the photo of you (or of both of you): If you have a camera, you could take a photo OF a photo. Then the new photo can be uploaded to photobucket, etc, and from there it's fairly simple. I have done photo-of-a-photo a few times for Gawker (because I can't use a scanner -- I'm not very computer savvy, either), and it's worked out fine, esp'ly if the image is large (like headshots).

I can't wait to exchange my mental image of you (Grace Jones) for the real thing. #crosstalk

I barely feel the work of journalists these days. I rarely read the NYT, as I used to do almost cover to cover, and I have never watched tv news. In large part, the latter is because it has, for so long, been so poorly made. It's sad to find out too late about great journalists who have been killed doing their job. #crosstalk
Exactly. If things don't work out for him in November (goffabih), he's always got his voice to fall back on. Would he not make the coolest lounge singer ever? The stories he could tell....
I'm going to have to chime in on your side. Is there anything about McD's that isn't disgusting? What your comment gave up in subtlety it gained in truth.
Ummm, personally I have actually caught myself many times making that very edit. I think that 'actually' sounds grownup somehow (unlike 'ummm'), so people use it without realizing that it is, at this point, terribly overused. It's not the worst sin out there, but it's definitely a mild irritant. #crosstalk
