I hate this idea that you should be flattered by some stranger making remarks at you on the street.
"Maybe somewhere along the way, we'll achieve enough political parity to have elected women engaging in a similar level of hubris and recklessness."

I think Iris Robinson in Northern Ireland showed you don't need political parity for that to happen.
I'm not that surprised that the US anti-abortion people are helping.

Abortion is illegal in Ireland, and yet they still send over money and train people in tactics, so no doubt they'd do it in a country where abortion is legal.

I think I read that UK anti-abortion groups are also getting help from US groups, or at least getting inspiration from them.

The reserch was commissioned for the release of a film, so it might not be the most rigerous.

Still, 20% thinking a pregnancy lasts a year? A bit worrying.

Though is it strange that only a fifth thinking women were better qualified to change nappies was a happy surprise to me? I think I've read so many articles recently that suggest that women's inate wiring make us better at the child rearing that this seems low to me.
Oh when will the media realise that silly questions about what she was wearing are irrelevant.

Obviously, she was a woman, so she was asking for it.

Silly media.
Why can it never be that they lost just because they sucked?

It's always someone elses fault.

Besides, the waxing doesn't explain the whole Group stage fiasco where he also was crap.
Article about a man who placed love banners on a route his wife, who he is seperated from, was cycling on in a charity race. It didn't go according to his plans.

I think this article is supposed to be sweet. But it's striking me as being a bit creepy. And quite attention seeking and "look at me" in something that should be about his wife's achievements.

@Ink-Stained Wretch: That's a really nice story. Thanks for posting it.

It was good to get some good news.

I thought this was a funny article about everyone complaining they can't find a man.

She does say be less picky, but it is a different take on it then "Women, lower your standards"

I'm not trying to be judge-y, but I find this obsession with president's wife in the US and France very odd. I don't get at all why so much attention is paid to them, when they don't really do anything, and aren't elected and often aren't involved in the decision making processes involved in running a country.

I don't think I could pick out any of my presidents' or even any politicians partner out of a line up or even know their name (beyond it's generally Mr. or Mrs. Politician's Last Name)

This isn't even meant that much as a criticism, I just find it odd.
During the French match last night one of the commentators mentioned that Franck Ribéry may be distracted because of problems in his personal life. Then he clarified that those problems are that he may be facing statutory rape charges.

There wasn't exactly a tone of blame the women, but it struck me as a very odd way to phrase it.
@A Small Turnip: I think Holly Branson is supposed to be the normal heiress. I think she either is, or is studying to be, a doctor.

I mean, I sure she parties it up, and is probably a bit spoiled, but I don't think she is in Paris Hilton territory.
I'm so sick of all these remakes.

I hope to God the Mysterious Cities of Gold remake never makes it off the ground.

Because while I liked the Smurfs, Mysterious Cities of Gold was sacred.
@voteforme: Ahh, I didn't know that about her religion.

I love that besides the whole being shot plotline, Penelope also gets to be the hot flirty girl.

This just sucks. They could do a lot more with both characters. I think they're just having an imagination fail.

They have three great female characters, which is a large part of why I watch the show, and they are ruining it, apparently for no good reason.

If any of the actress wanted off the show, it would be fine, but apparently it's a shock to them too.
@voteforme: I suppose it's the quantity that bugs me more than the content. If there had been other Prentiss episodes it wouldn't be so bad, but when it's just that, it bugs.

At least she got back story though. Does JJ have any?
@voteforme: I was going to mention him as an exception, but then counted him out because of Fischer King where we got masses of characterisation without the victimisation. Or at least violent victimisation.

But yeah, he does totally get his ass kicked all the time and is clearly the shows damsel in distress.
@dismantledwoman: @Kit Cloudkicker: I thought it was Anne Hathaway and Renee Zellwegger. Which does link in to an earlier story.
@voteforme: Unless that person is Hotch, in which case we must know every single thing about him.

I generally like that the just focus on the cases, but I think a bit more information would be nice.

And I don't think the female characters should have do go through something awful before we discover something about them (Elle, Penelope).
@voteforme: I hate that that episode is the only Prentiss episode, because I hated that episode and thought it was such a let down after the big build up of "what is Prentiss' deal?"
I'm so glad you are covering this.

One of the reasons I like Criminal Minds is that they have strong female characters, who are actual people rather than cardboard cut outs.

The show is definitely male dominated, especially with regards to which characters are focused on, but the female characters are never shown as being anything less than competent at their jobs, even when they screw up (which doesn't happen often) and they always have some role to play in the case being solved.

This plays a big part in why I don't find the show that disturbing even though most of the cases focus on violence against women.

They could have easily cut loose any of the male characters and had it make sense within the show, but no - they chose to dump one woman and reduce the role of another.

I don't see how it can be seen as anything but sexism. If they did it for financial reasons, than why get rid of two people who are more in a supporting role and therefore probably earn less. And if it was for creative reasons, how can they have more endless Hotch and Reid manpain, but not be able to come up with stories for Prentice and JJ.

I'm seriously not sure if I'll bother to watch next season.

(And clearly, judging by this super long post, I care a lot more about this than I would have suspected.
