I would say they've been dealing with the reality of being trapped in a floating space prison for the whole show; this probably contributed to your dislike of most of the earlier episodes.
You seem to really dislike SGU, are you stuck reviewing it?
@HowIsYourFlat: The title was "Starship Troopers". It was actually trying to be an adaptation of the book, until the purple bubble-congeries "bugs" started showing up.
I still have it on VHS someplace...
edit: here you go: [en.wikipedia.org]
There was also an anime series (well, 3 OVAs), which started out well, and then went somewhere off into left field and wandered around with no pants for a while.
I always thought that an anime version would have been the most possible to do well, thanks for clearing that up for me Japan.
@Captain_Midnight: Some kind of ... science fiction channel. It'd be great!
We could have it show little-known but good movies from the past decades of sci-fi, and shows that barely anyone has heard of now, but deserve an audience!
I have the feeling this has been done before, and then they got funded by the USA network.
It would be especially ironic if it were done by Marvel, especially given that Thundarr was done by Jack Kirby?
Still, adding my vote of "we need a movie of this, preferably with avatar-level CGI" to the throng.
@tralfaz23: It was Ellis' run on Authority that gave me that opinion, I stopped when he left (the first time). The 4-issue arcs before that mostly seemed to be "bad guy shows how powerful he is, heroes trump bad guy with larger display of power".
@tralfaz23: Authority seemed, to me, to be mostly "what do you do when you're the most powerful things around?" which sort of limits the potential "f-yeah" moments.
@Andrew Liptak: Yep, that's my ending point as well. Thematically in keeping with the show, far more courageous ending, just as much explained.
Haven't bought the 4.5 box set due to the ending of the show, and haven't felt the lack.
@dirtybacon: from what I hear, GRRM is being delayed on finishing 5-7 by working on the pilot for the HBO series. So if that's done, maybe he'll get back to the last 3 books before season 4 ends? .
Torchwood on Fox? I can't quite wrap my mind around that one.
Looking forward to the Walking Dead and cautiously optimistic about Game of Thrones, though.
I've been told I should like Caprica. I know I should like it. I can't bring myself to watch any of the episodes I have tivo'ed, and I still think it's a reaction to the horribly lazy ending to battlestar, combined with my distaste for all things prequel.
Maybe I just don't want to like it, only to find out after a few years that it was all the great and powerful Oz, sitting behind a curtain, and therefore none of the plot elements that we thought would make sense actually had to?
edit: it's a depressing feeling, really. I want to watch it, there's just something in the way.
