We heard hints of this project at the New York Comic-Con and we know that Cable is squaring off against the Avengers in January. But starting in March 2012, Avengers Vs. X-Men — a 12-issue, biweekly series written by Brian Michael Bendis, Jason Aaron, Ed Brubaker, Jonathan Hickman, and Matt Fraction — will see Marvel's two bigger superteams butt heads. John Romita Jr., Olivier Coipel, and Adam Kubert will be on art chores. More »

X2 screenwriter Michael Dougherty didn't get a crack at the third X-Men script, but he and Bryan Singer did kick around some ideas for a Phoenix-centric movie. He shares his different take on Rogue and the end of Jean Grey. More »

Death really isn't the end in science fiction... It just depends on whether or not it can be written around later. Here are some of our favorite NotDeaths that prove that the Grim Reaper should really up his game. More »

Five months ago, it landed on the Martian surface — and into our hearts. It gave us soil analysis data, photos of the sky from the red planet, and even hope of extraterrestrial life. Now, with its power deteriorating, its sunlight exposure shrinking, and Martian temperatures dropping to almost -100°C, the Phoenix lander's time may be up. Project manager Barry Goldstein admitted "we're towards the end," and Phoenix even bid us a fond goodbye on its Twitter page. But that's the charm of robots; they never truly die. Phoenix might not literally rise from the ashes, but you can make sure its spirit never leaves you. More »

The Phoenix Lander, our favorite robot chemistry lab on Mars, has successfully cooked up some soil in its oven to see if water evaporates from it when heated. So far, no dice. Though the Martian rovers Opportunity and Spirit have found evidence of evaporated water at the equator of the planet, Phoenix hasn't yet found similar evidence at the pole. What it has found, however, is fascinating. There is an unknown white substance right beneath the surface of the soil next to it (pictured), which could be ice or salt. And the Martian soil has turned out to be chunky, rather than sandy, which surprised scientists. More »

What happened to Polar Lander, the last Mars rover that NASA tried to land in the Martian polar region, where it hopes that the Phoenix rover will touch down on May 25? The mysterious fate of the lander that simply disappeared moments before reaching Mars has been the subject of both scientific and UFO-logy debates. Was it shot down by angry Martians dwelling at the pole? Did it encounter some strange magnetic phenomenon that disabled it? Or did it just malfunction? We may soon find out. More »
