Posting is getting harder again isn't it? It almost feels like in the era of the redesign - I am especially annoyed by the fact that like then, all replies are hidden by defualt... If there is a way to change that, I can't find it in my Profile editing. If that is going to take a little longer again, some kind of public announcement lie back in the Era of the Redesign might be helpfull.
Back to the major flaws of the redesign era, aren't we?
Like back then, all replies to the comments are hidden by default, and you have to click on every single comment to open them. I vaguley remember there being a button to change that, but it's not in my "edit profile" section. If that won't change by itself, it's time for a general anouncement like we didn't have it since the days of the Grand Redesign.
is it just me or is the preview image above the gallery so cut that you can't see much for most of the images? (e.g. I only see the moons in the image with the sword and the dragon before I expand it)
This is one of the major flaws remaining in the redesign. I do not know why the images in the main gallery window cannot be resized to at least encapsulate most of the image. It seems a rather silly system. Why have the big gallery window at all if it is just going to be a cropped abtraction. (Edit comment)
NOTE: something is wrong with the push to Facebook feed. Viewing it in my BlackBerry application, there is a big gap between the title and where the article starts. A real eyesore. Appears to be the case for all the gawker site feeds, so not sure where the bug lies. #redesign(Edit comment)
I like the layout with the time, comment/view numbers, and author; but everything is to monochromatic! Grey text on a white background looks ugly and cluttered. Some color and post separation would do wonders for clarification and ease of viewing.
Also, I find it funny that new Gawker is slowly looking more and more like old Gawker. The removal of sidebar in blog view, the addition of fullsize headline pictures, the return of the old font. It's almost like *gasp* people miss the old design! #redesign(Edit comment)
Spot on. Also the new design kills my eyes. I think our Lords and Masters are having a reality check (probably due to the allegedly awful page view stats). #observationdeck(Edit comment)
I think it's been one long reality check since the new design. Everyone knows the old design was better, but a lot of time and money was probably poured into the new design -- too much to just abandon it. #observationdeck(Edit comment)
Can something be done about the galleries? It would be much easier if, once you'd expanded an image, you could see the next image without clicking close - next image - expand, just to have to do the same to see the one after. There must be a way to browse through the expanded images; I'm sure I've seen it on other sites. That really is the only problem with the switch to the new format that is still a problem, everything else is running smoothly for me.
Dammit can we stop cross-posting the cross-post of the original article?
"Oh look interesting article. *click* this has nothing to do with... where's the artic- oh. It's back at the site I originally CLICKED THE LINK ON! Grrr! *Type in complaint*" Gawker: Ehh file it under
Can someone tell me the URL to point browsers to the full site? I deleted the bookmark and can't remember how it was typed out... io9.com/=?fullsite... or something. #redesign#observationdeck(Edit comment)
If you clear your cookies on your iPad and load io9.com, you should see the fixed sidebar version of the site which is a fully functional but lightweight version of the site. No need for qwr. #redesign(Edit comment)
You know, I don't normally like to complain about the #redesign anymore, because I know it's here to stay in all it's ad-filled, unresponsive, broken glory. And I've accepted that fact. But this is just ridiculous.
Yeah I hate that. I also hate how you have to clear your notices on different Gawker sites separately, so every time I get notifications I have to clear them on here AND Kotaku. #observationdeck(Edit comment)
And, when I get home from work, I go to io9 on my home computer and I have every notice from the day that I already cleared on io9, still waiting to be re-cleared. Such a pain. #observationdeck(Edit comment)
Oh and has anyone else found that the only way to ACTUALLY SEE replies is if you scroll to the actual thread, since clicking the link doesn't seem to work for me? #observationdeck(Edit comment)
When I click on the notification I can see the replies on articles, but not here on the Odeck. I have no idea the cause. And, if the comment thread on the articles is too long I don't see it there either. #observationdeck(Edit comment)
Report to help@gawker.com. I swear, they were surprised when I reported o-deck bugs to them, and were blaming it on Opera. Ah, no. I loves me some Opera, but I'm not the only person with these problem, and I'm probably the only person using Opera. I can reproduce this in other operating systems and browsers.
@OutlawDominus: Yeah, it's so broken it's silly. I use the UK site because I find the new one unusable, but reply notifications, for instance... rarely does the link take me to the reply. I have to go to the article and find the reply manually. No wonder it seems quiet around here.
Also, is there any way to get my replies sent to my e-mail? I had that set up, then The Change happened and it was deactivated, then i got it to work again and now it's not doing it. #observationdeck(Edit comment)
Best way to check replies is to go to the profiles and then open the specific thread in a separate reply. Makes things way easier. #observationdeck(Edit comment)
Forgive me for posting off-topic, but how many more fucking times do I have to click on the 'blog format' button before this bastard website remembers my selection? It seems like it's at least once a week that I get a 'helpful' strap asking me "Prefer the traditional blog format?", and I have to reselect the option again. Every other non-Gawker site that I use has no problem remembering my preferences. Gawker: sort it out FFS. This new look of yours is shitty enough without you giving us more reasons to badmouth it to everyone we know.
Gosh, it feels good to get that off my chest. I won't have to take it out on the cat any more now. Or the ape... and just like magic, we're back on topic.
wonder how the votes would've gone if to vote you didn't have to use the horrible site design.. I don't think Serenity would've got this far - good film and all but no.
Sigh...just about every time I try and reply to a comment if get a "Comment save failed" error message with no explination as to why it failed. Ima never gona get a star at this rate if I cant even post whitty comments. =P
Yeah, for a while I was aspiring to earn my star back, but I find myself less willing to contribute the kind of well-reasoned, edited comment that ears stars since the site still has a habit of unexpectedly not posting them. #redesign(Edit comment)
Sigh. Obvious problem is the inability to post. Not as obvious a problem is the site telling me I'm logged in, until the moment I try to post, then the "you don't have to be registered" pop-up comes up, so I log in, then try to post, only to have it NOT POST. So I spend half my time being frustrated that my comments aren't going through so I move on to another article. Sometimes when I do this, the entire site seems to lock-up, although not truly because I can still scroll things, but most of the links stop working, except the io9/kotaku/whatever banner, which I click to reload the homepage, which shows I'm still logged in, but when I try (unsuccessfully) to comment on another post, hey guess what I'm not logged in!
This. Is. Frustrating.
PS. I've started copy/pasting my comments over and over until they go through. I'll start added numbers of tries at the end like this.
