When many of us think of reptiles we immediately envision them as egg-laying creatures, but there are some reptiles that actually give birth to live young. All of the reptiles in this second category possess a rudimentary placenta (the vascular tissue which, in mammals, nourishes unborn offspring), but until recenty, not one of them was believed to have a true placenta. More »

In 1987, Charles Bonner discovered the fossilised bones of a large sea reptile on his family ranch. It was a flipper-limbed plesiosaur, probably Polycotylus, and one of many such fossils recovered from Logan County in Kansas. But this specimen was special – there was a smaller one inside it. This plesiosaur was pregnant. More »

This two-headed bobtail lizard from Perth, Australia has two brains, and it consequently has trouble moving its hindlegs. But that's not its biggest problem - no, the lizard's larger head wants to devour its smaller one. Before sediment buried it, this Sanajeh indicus was about to devour a baby titanosaur. 67 million years later, paleontologists unearthed this fossilized scene of an 11-foot-long snake hunting what would grow up to to be a 75-foot sauropod. We mentioned earlier that V might be heading back to television. The big news is that the book that could inspire this V resurgence will hit store shelves tomorrow. But how well to you remember this show and its creator? Creator Kenneth Johnson gave us the original Bionic Woman, and we all know how that recent retread has been going. Would a new V series fare any better? Go behind the scenes with some V trivia in the list below which is rife with decades-old spoilers. More »
