Feast your eyes on one of the most puzzling planetary mysteries our solar system has to offer. In this photograph of Saturn's north pole, captured by NASA's Cassini spacecraft in 2009, clouds can be seen encircling the planet at about 77 degrees north latitude. Even at such a high parallel, the massive six-sided jet stream has a diameter more than twice that of Earth's. <a href="http://io9.com/5878325/stare-into-the-soul-of-saturns-mysterious-hexagonal-cloud-system" title="Click here to read more about Stare into the soul of Saturn's mysterious hexagonal cloud system">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

More than 60 moons are known to orbit Saturn, but few of them are as visually striking as Iapetus. Named formally after the Greek mythological Titan, Iapetus is sometimes referred to as the "painted," or "yin-yang" moon, due to puzzling variations in its surface composition. <!-- %JUMP:More &raquo;% --> <a href="http://io9.com/5876050/meet-iapetus-saturns-mysterious-yin+yang-moon" title="Click here to read more about Meet Iapetus, Saturn's mysterious &quot;yin-yang&quot; moon">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

The small moon Enceladus is constantly shooting water vapor out of its geysers. But that water isn't staying on the satellite - it's actually making its way to Saturn, making Enceladus the first known moon to shape its planet's composition. <a href="http://io9.com/5824879/the-moon-enceladus-rains-down-water-on-saturn" title="Click here to read more about The moon Enceladus rains down water on Saturn">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

Last week saw <a href="http://io9.com/5820120/today-is-the-first-anniversary-of-the-discovery-of-neptune-++-in-neptune-years">Neptune Day</a>, the first anniversary - in Neptune years - of the planet's discovery on September 23, 1846. Saturn's rings are one of the solar system's most brilliant sights, extending for tens of thousands of kilometers and weighing at least thirty quadrillion tons. But in this amazing photograph, you can see just how thin the rings really are. <a href="http://io9.com/5780164/the-moon-titan-rests-on-saturns-razor+thin-rings" title="Click here to read more about The moon Titan rests on Saturn's razor-thin rings">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

Enceladus is home to one of the solar system's most incredible hotspots, churning out 15.8 gigawatts of power. It's even more proof that there's a liquid ocean hiding beneath the ice...but scientists have no clue what's creating all that heat. <a href="http://io9.com/5779389/why-is-saturns-icy-moon-enceladus-releasing-ten-times-more-energy-than-expected" title="Click here to read more about What is creating all that energy beneath the ice on Saturn's moon Enceladus?">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

The great challenge for any climber is to conquer each continent's tallest mountain. But tomorrow's climbers can consider a far more extreme challenge: leaving Earth to climb the tallest peaks of the solar system. Here's how they'll do it. <a href="http://io9.com/5650306/the-rough-guide-to-solar-system-mountaineering" title="Click here to read more about The Rough Guide to Solar System Mountaineering">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

But some are just too amazing to ignore, like this shot of Saturn's moons Dione and Rhea seemingly morphing together into one mega-moon. <a href="http://io9.com/5648361/two-of-saturns-moons-merge-into-oneor-so-it-would-seem" title="Click here to read more about Two of Saturn's moons merge into one...or so it would seem">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>

Jupiter became the solar system's biggest planet by consuming its chief rival, a massive rocky planet ten times bigger than Earth. New discoveries suggest Jupiter and Saturn learned a lesson from their mythological namesakes, "eating" any planet that opposed them. <a href="http://io9.com/5614152/jupiter-became-king-of-the-planets-by-devouring-a-super-earth" title="Click here to read more about Jupiter became king of the planets by devouring a &quot;Super Earth&quot;">More&nbsp;&raquo;</a>
