Skin-bound books may sound like weird artifacts that belong in Evil Dead movies or Dungeons and Dragons campaigns. But from the 1600s to 1800s, these suede-like tomes were less necromancy, more commemorative plate. And hell, converting yourself into a human moleskine upon kicking the bucket made for a heartfelt present. More »

Even though malaria deaths are down a very encouraging 25%, it remains one of the most devastating diseases in the world. With the simplest of modifications, a normal ink-jet printer becomes a high-tech 3-D printer, able to build replacement skin for those desperately in need of grafts. The latest breakthrough saw a plastic "ear" being printed out over just a half-hour...and it's only a matter of time before we can do that with skin as well. More »

When the mutants rise up and start culling the inferior humans from the population, you'll need some protective coloration to survive. So now is a perfect time to prepare, by shoving disc-shaped silicone implants under your skin to look like a half-octopus mutant. A post-human fashion statement is just a short trip to Sao Paulo, Brazil away. Save up your dough and visit Dark Freak at the Luck All bodymod parlor, and you'll be looking like a half-breed sushi victim in no time at all. Although it's best not to think too much about what keeps them from sliming around under the skin. That's when the real seasickness starts. Several new products that hover between being cosmetics and pharmeceuticals promise to make aging skin look young again. And apparently there's medical proof that they work. The main signs of aging skin are an uneven surface, wrinkles, and discoloration. Now a North Carolina dermatologist says each of these symptoms can be treated with simple, topical "cosmeceuticals." We can't grow skin in a vat for you, but we can rejuvenate what you've got. <a href="http://io9.com/339083/re+grow-your-skin-with-cosmeceuticals" title="Click here to read more about Re-Grow Your Skin With "Cosmeceuticals"">More »
