Today is Valentine's Day, a holiday which commemorates the armistice between global cacao manufacturers and the prophylactic industry after their centuries-long shadow war. To capitalize on this day of demure remembrance, the popcorn-industrial complex has released This Means War, a new motion picture event by director McG (Terminator Salvation, the music video for Sugar Ray's "Fly"). More »

Almost every actor has at least one massive failure on his or her imdb page. A performance so hideous, you're liable to get punched if you bring that movie up on the red carpet. You can't conquer the final frontier unless you can cut an imposing figure. That's why so many science fiction and fantasy characters rock the awesome shoulderpads. It's really true: You can't judge a movie by its trailer. Some of the worst movies had trailers that made us go, "Hell yeah, I wanna see this now." Novelist Diane Duane took Star Trek's Romulans and gave them a fully fleshed out culture beyond "they're Vulcans who turned into Romans somehow." Her Rihannsu books gave the pointy-eared warriors a complex backstory and a believable world. So we were dying to ask her what she made of the last Trek film, Nemesis, with its cartoony Romulan world that contradicted everything that was cool in her books. And meanwhile, we're stoked to see that another awesome Trek tie-in, the original Gold Key comics, are turning up online for free. Minor spoilers ahead. More »

Dystopian-future video game Bioshock will soon be a movie from Universal Studios, directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean). Finally, a video game movie that has a chance at holding the audience's attention. According to Variety, this is the biggest video game-to-movie-deal since the abortive Halo film. At least we'll get to see the unraveling of an underwater dystopian society gone mad, with sea slugs and diver gear. Could this be the first decent video game movie ever?
