It takes about 20 years for the kids who lived their formative years in one decade to grow up to a point where they can influence and create shows reliving their nostalgia for that time.

I'm waiting for Buck Rogers: the Movie.

I wont be happy till we've had a Nic Cage movie in every genre.

I think we could even start inventing new ones.

I dunno, I thought this was one of the weaker episodes. It just all felt a little too... standard; nowhere near the imaginative thrills we got in Season 1. The only things that really stuck out in my mind in this ep was the Bat-Mech and Batman's plan to get all the heroes teleported onto Warmoon.

El Eternauta: Looks like someone didnt get the toy they wanted in their happy meal.

Eep: You know they actually said "KFC will not harm you" with straight faces.

SUCK: The music leaves a little to be desired but the movie looks like it has potential to become a cult classic like a Whopper.

Season of The Witch: Looks like it might be ... ummm ... a Nick Cage movie. Which means i will see it as he has the potential to be so good or so bad. Like a 3am gas station hot dog.

Has he now just gone into playing all his characters as Nick Cage coz Nick Cage is the coolest character that this character could be ?

(Yeah thats right, i went fast food on all those clips)

"I know it's not really in our wheelhouse"

It's okay by me that you cover anything that could be described as "fannish". I trust your judgement. Even though none of us really know what "fannish" encompasses. The best we've been able to do is "I know it when I see it".

Personally, I've been described by two former managers as "a renaissance man" and by one as "unfocused". They're all probably right. So I know how hard it is to decide what your purview really is. It's a challenge to define your market, when SF and fantasy fans are known for having interests all over the map.

(Why is GLEE fannish? Damned if I know. But it is.)

At some point last season I thought it was said that only an angel could kill another angel. Since Lucifer is technically an angel and not a demon, shouldn't they have known the Colt would not work? Or is my brain completely making things up...

Edit: Wouldn't that also fit with the idea that only Michael can dispatch Lucifer?

In reply to Cinema Is Doomed: New Moon Most Successful Opening Ever
Hey listen, say what you will about the quality of "New Moon", but I went to go see 2012 this weekend (review: LOVED IT) and it was refreshing to see a multiplex packed with cute sexed-up ladies (and no Chris Hansen, it wasn't all teens) rather than... well... guys like me.

@Garrison Dean: R.O.A.C.H.: Wow, I just went to the theatre and had a totally different experience.

My niece wanted to see Death Note, a Japanese movie based off of some colossally popular manga that was playing for one weekend only.
I love cultivating her love of the geekly arts so I and my gf agreed to take her. When we got to the theatre it had been taken hostage by 30+ year old men dressed like naruto and high school seniors somersaulting around with fake ninja swords. I asked my niece if maybe she wouldn't be happier as a Twi-Hard.

We wound up leaving her in the theater and sneaking into 2012 and I must say, the SFX were super-neat but not much else.

@JimBonJovi: This is way off topic, but yeah, the effects were amazing. So good and effective that those scenes were occasionally almost hard to watch because they captured the terror of destruction so well. (it didn't help that I have regular nightmares about being in buildings that rapidly sink into the earth, should look into that) I honestly think that if the movie had a more believable plot with characters that you actually cared about then the film wouldn't have been any fun and probably really hard to watch. It could be worth it to do a mash-up film with 2012 and The Road and make the MOST BRUTAL MOVIE EVER.

I can't think of a title, but have Jeeves become the Doctor's newest companion. It would write itself.

@Mathmos: Part of me just likes the idea of having a Doctor who, instead of being utterly brilliant and always having a solution, is a bit of a twit who needs his butler to get him out of things.

Hell, maybe Jeeves is a Time Lord.

@Wookie1972: Part of me is a pedantic twit who can't help pointing out that Jeeves is a "gentleman's personal gentleman" or valet, not a butler, though his uncle Charlie is a butler. Btw, Charles Stross called his Jeeves a butler too, in Saturn's Children.

But you're right, he has some Time Lord - like qualities, though he doesn't seem to need a tardis.

Leave the electronica out of this. If the bassline of the music playing in my car drops below 120bpm, it...will...explode!

Seriously though, while I'm no fan of the autotune, I've got no problem with today's country sounding more pop-y and the hip hop sounding more trip hop. Much more tolerable.
