In reply to Vegetal City Takes Green Design Literally
Something that strikes me about these (and many other eco-city) designs is the remarkable lack of animal life depicted. Are these simply meant to be plant-scapes that are pretty to live in and maybe even good for the air? Or are they meant to be full ecosystems? Where are the bugs? The rats? The raccoons? The rampaging polar bears? And heck, where are all the people? You'd think they'd all want to be outside enjoying the atmosphere. Or maybe they're all hiding from that gang of kids with the fairy-leaf-wings in picture #11.

I guess what I'm saying is that I wish more architects, even when creating highly conceptual designs such as these, would work more to depict how their buildings and cities would actually be occupied. That is the point of architecture, is it not?

@Boas_MC: I was thinking something similar. These ideas are great, but the sad truth is that a large number of city folks wouldn't want to submit themselves to the inevitable encounters with insects, birds, bird droppings, etc

@Boas_MC: Come on, everyone knows animals are the least environmentally friendly things possible. They’re always fighting, killing each other, eating all the plants, crapping all over the place and generally making a mess and a nuisance of themselves. There’s no place for animals in a proper eco-city.

Item #1: You've seen the pilot for V, haven't you Mer? Using super-sexy recruiters of both sexes was one of the ploys the lizards used to bring people into the fold, so actually, this one makes sense.

Item #8: Artist fail? How about math fail. I think they meant to say $3, not 2, unless it was a 66% off sale. And that little batman looks just like the batman from the Ultimate Destiny webvideo, so it might have been intentional.

Item #11: They were just working the Olivia Munn angle, seeing how sales of the magazine in general are in the toilet.

Item #18: Ironic, as you don't even need the cards to get the free episode. I just tried it, all you have to do is type in the web address and it takes you to the itunes store, where the first ep of the season for all the shows shown is free.

Item #19: You're right, the funeral IS for Criss Angel. My best friend works at the Luxor, and they can't even fill the seats with comp tickets. They can't even get the old people on group tour vouchers to stay for the entire show. Word is, as soon as his contract is up, he's gone in a "don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya," sort of way. If this was still the Ratpack era Vegas, Criss would have been mindfreaked by a couple taps to the head, months ago.

Item #20: Isn't that the husband from Jon and Kate + 8? Christ, that guy is everywhere!

I'm compelled to correct the caption on photo #11 (last), as Boba Fett is not a clone--he is the son of Jango. Jango was the template for the clone troopers--just because Boba lived on Kamino with clones for a while doesn't make him one. ;)

Jango had him made but not growth accelerated as part of his payment for being the template.
