Best Superhero Penis Joke Ever
Act 2 of Joss "Firefly" Whedon's online supervillain musical Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog arrived on the innerwebs yesterday, and it was a great moment in evil. We get a lot more mugging from Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion), as he begins dating Penny, the love of Dr. Horrible's life. In this clip, Hammer drops by the laundromat where Horrible and Penny hang out — and engages in some pretty awesome smack-talking. Including possibly the best penis joke ever. More »
Alien Egg Invades Russia
A first clip from Disney's new CG short Glasgo's Guest is on Animated World Network. Glasgo's features a lone Russian soldier stationed at a frozen Siberian outpost. The soldier seems to live a pretty mundane existence, until one giant alien egg comes from the sky. The short is set to premiere before the Disney film Bolt, released on November 26, 2008.[AWNtv]
Entertainment Industry: Please Stop Pandering To My Generation!
When did I first realize that Generation-X nostalgia was a driving the entertainment industry off a cliff? First all the toys I'd broken were suddenly on the big screen, thrashing each other and cursing loudly. Then the cartoons I learned to masturbate while watching were being acted out — with gravitas — by real actors. Now it turns out Sir John Gielgud is being dug up, resurrected and having frog DNA injected, so he can play Baron Silas Greenback in the new Danger Mouse movie. When will it stop? More »

Dr. Horrible's Freeze Ray Will Stop the World
At last we've seen the first installment of Joss Whedon's new web series, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, and it's sweeter than we'd ever imagined. And I do mean sweet: It's the tale of a romantic but evil mad scientist, Dr. Horrible (Neil Patrick Harris), who wants nothing more than to snag the attention of a cute girl named Penny who goes to his laundromat. Sure, he has a few other goals: He wants to join Bad Horse, leader of the Evil League of Evil (which he's been applying to get into via mail); and he's hoping to take over the world. The songs, one of which we've got for you here, are well-staged and well-written. I am enraptured by the fact that Whedon has turned Dr. Horrible's explanation of his freeze ray into a love song. You Killed Dr. Horrible!
The site for Joss Whedon's internet musical Dr. Horrible's Singalong Blog should be back up "in a few hours," Joss and co. write on their Facebook page. "We love you for crashing our site. We really do," they add. In the meantime, the first episode is on iTunes. [Facebook]

This morning's spoilers include a bunch of new and somewhat cryptic details about AMC's remake of the British spy-village show The Prisoner, starring Jim Caviezel and Ian McKellen. Also, Jim Gordon actor Gary Oldman spilled a ton of new Dark Knight spoilers, and there are a few new bits of info about The Spirit, Transformers 2, Star Wars: Clone Wars and Watchmen. We find out exactly when "all will be revealed" in Battlestar Galactica, and glean some new info on Smallville, Eureka, Lost, Fringe and Dr. Horrible. Also, a zingy new one-minute Heroes promo. Embrace the spoilers! More »Nazi Werewolf Gals Spread The Pure Blood Word Through Comic
Strap on your topless suspenders and gas masks, Project Pure Wolf is getting it's own comic book. You may remember these busty German broads as one of the fake trailers that aired during Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse double feature. According to Rob Zomibie's myspace blog the Werewolf Women of the S.S. shall be splattered across the panels of an upcoming comic book, but no news on who will be writing, illustrating or even the publisher. But hopefully we can finally get to the bottom of Nicolas Cage's crazy cameo as Fu Manchu. Click through for the original trailer and one more trailer that begs for a full length feature. Everyone expected Pixar's Wall-E to do well at the box office, but very few expected there to be talk of a spin-off project less than a month after the movie's release. Not that the spin-off being discussed is something that anyone could've seen coming... unless they were paying attention to Broadway forty years ago. Find out about the unforeseen result of Wall-E's success under the jump. More »

The must-have home accessory of this season has to be The Seeker Robot. This 3 1/2" tall droid will, according to its maker, "seek whatever it's current master commands ... object, information, person ... all other orders recinded!" If only it were more than an awesome (and affordable) sculpture from Etsy artist The Builder's Studio. More of his work under the jump.

A Sexbot on the Run in a Posthuman Solar System
One of the charmingly weird things about Charles Stross' new novel Saturn's Children is that he manages to include every single cliche of sexual perversion you've seen on the net — and make them somehow fit plausibly into the plot. The author of the critically-acclaimed Halting State has written a fast-paced thriller about Freya, a sexbot designed to service humans, who lives in a solar system where humans died out 300 years before. A freak among bots, she's programmed to look like and lust after something that doesn't exist. Her life is meaningless and depressing until she takes a job smuggling black market "pink goo" (human cells) for a shady bot named Jeeves. There's a lot to enjoy (and mull over) in this often-satirical novel, and one of the most interesting parts is that Freya comes from a line of "Rhea model" sexbots who share memories and lovers — just like the beautiful cylons in Battlestar Galatica do. It's the same old story: Mechanic invents super-fuel, Mechanic refuses to sell super-fuel formula to corporation, Corporation drowns mechanic in super-fuel, Mechanic rises from the dead to take revenge on corporation. How many times have we read that old chestnut? Soon we'll have another chance when Chopper Zombie, a new graphic novel from the creator of Discovery Channel's Monster Garage, hits the stands. More »

Doctor Who's Midlife Metacrisis
Wow. I haven't been so eager for a Doctor Who episode as I was for last night's finale since the time-traveling soap-comedy relaunched. And... well, it was a mixture of pure silly fun and overwrought fan-service. Not quite as fun as Jesus-Doctor last year, and much, much too long. I found myself wishing the Sci Fi Channel would cut 20 minutes out of it after all. Only one question remains unanswered: what part of this episode was supposed to have us bawling like babies? Spoilers and snark ahead. More »

Watch Out for the Chick in the Bloody Burqa
My new favorite zombie movie is Hell's Ground, billed as the "first Pakistani splatter flick." Anyone who has watched Urdu vampire and ghoul movies knows that's not true, but let's just say that it's the first such flick that makes references to Blair Witch and Night of the Living Dead as much as it does to local myth. What I love about this movie, aside from the fact that its protagonists switch effortlessly from English to Urdu, are the over-the-top insano death sequences. Plus, as you can see in these two scenes, we get a traditional horror movie lesson: Naughty kids who get stoned are doomed to run out of gas in a dark forest, stumble on a haunted workshop, and get stalked by a really pissed off chick in a blood-soaked burqa. If you're one of those United Staters, and you're looking for something to do on July 4, this is the perfect flick to watch. It really says, "Happy Birthday, USA!" [Hell's Ground official website]Whatever Happened To Hyperion, Vurt, Count Zero and Logan's Run?
Welcome back to Development Purgatory, where we check on the status of movies that were announced with great fanfare — but never arrived. This time, we wonder why we're not sucking on futuristic drug feathers while watching a movie of Jeff Noon's Vurt. We also check on the movies of William Gibson's Count Zero, Dan Simmons' Hyperion, plus the long-promised Forever War miniseries. More »Magneto, Nazi Hunter
Some early script reviews for the X-Men spin-off starring mutant supremacist and Nazi concentration camp survivor Magneto has shown up online, and it's clear Magneto would be unlike any other superhero movie you've seen. In fact, the script by David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, Blade) is more of a dark science fiction epic involving Nazis experimenting on mutants. Click through for details. More »
