As cool as the posters are in general, I'd still have to say the coolest thing about them is that these were actually used as real movie posters. Yeah, it was for a showing at a local library, but they had a legitimate purpose for creating these, and not just because it seemed like a fun hobby.

These are all amazing, both inspiring and envy inducing. Though I may debate the status of "Classic" when it comes to The Phantom.

Damn gorgeous stuff, but if I were one of the Friends of the Ashland Public Library, I'd be all, like, glad you're watching 2001, Blade Runner, the classics, and some random new stuff, but can I have my money back, right now, you Billy Zane-loving Phantom-watching bitches.

@grendel_khan: Don't forget the Catherine Zeta-Jones junkies. This was a fun film. All it really lacked was a decent villain.

These are all fantastic but I have to ask, do they have MORE of an effect because we are already familiar with the content of the films?

@JPMarat: I believe they do have more of an effect. The coool retro-designs that we are loving here are pretty much played out like tropes; we identify them because they are fossils. Only when applied to our beloved contemporary movies does the nostalgia-loop bite its tail, and these retro looks are no longer cultural afterthoughts.
It's usually the art/design fetishists who appreciate the nostalgic look (Saul Bass fanclub?), then elevate/regurgitate it. Not that I'm complaining. Lovin' it.

@gods-n-clods: I have Saul Bass tattooed across my back.

I think I missed the point somewhere, but I was too drunk to notice.

These are incredible, and I wish we'd see something like these as official movie posters instead of the standard headshot collages.

I especially love the "They Live" one. It really captures the spirit of the movie perfectly.

Someone in Hollywood should give this guy a job if he dosent already have one.
Of course, maybe not working in Hollywood is why he shows some creative vision.

@Grey_Area: Excellent call! I was thisclose to commenting with the same link. Polish movie posters rock the world. I wasn't able to keep contact with my "Polska-huj" in Legnitza, so no poster hookups. :(

Ditto. If the artist or affliate is reading, I would buy a couple of these if large prints were available.

I sent a link to io9 at the weekend but maybe it didn't get there? Anyhow, there's some more great stuff here (and a few I've already seen here) - The Empire Strikes Back and Transformers ones are great.
