In my opinion, this has to be one of the best all-around articles you guys have posted. I have seen almost all the trailers, previews and "first glimpse" stuff you guys have put out on these films but this sums them all up in a really nice package. Thanks!
I work at the design firm that's handling some of the tie-in merchandise for Monsters Vs. Aliens and I can tell you from firsthand knowledge that the film has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Rex Havoc and the Asskickers of the Fantastic. I'd heard the film described as a Rex Havoc movie and almost jumped out of my skin upon hearing it since the Rex Havoc stories are some of my favorite comics of all time (there were four of them and they ran in Warren Publications' 1984 magazine), but upon seeing the material being worked on here at the design studio it's clear it ain't Rex Havoc. Is the film company still promoting it as such?
@Steve Bunche: Our former writer, Kevin Kelly, was the one who was sure it was a Rex Havoc movie... aren't some of these characters from the Rex Havoc comic? Maybe we just got misinformed. I'm seeing Jeffrey Katzenberg present some footage from the movie in a week or so, and I want to ask him about it.
@Adah: I think it's coming out in a few months. We cover it on the site because it's so closely related to science fiction, but I didn't feel the need to include it on a list of SF/F movies.
@Anthony Moody: Hmmm good question. I feel like that movie dropped off the radar. I know it's done filming. At least I think it is. I should look into that!
I like the concept of "The Box," but Kelly's Southland Tales was the first movie to make me actually shake with anger. That movie was so epic in its shittiness that I have to spit whenever I hear the name.
Ok, that was overdramtic, I admit. But I fucking hate that movie.
@MinervaAlpaca: Isn't it set during the middle ages? It's a prequel, right? We talked about it the other day and decided it doesn't quite fit in with the idea of "urban fantasy or fantasy that takes place in the present day." Arbitrary, I know, but there you have it.
@fatetwister64: Well, think of it this way-- it'll give you something to live for. That's what I do. "Dude, I really want to kill myself, but I can't until ________." It's what gets me through every day.
Woah, the kid from Third Rock is playing a certain commanding officer of a certain snake based terrorist organization? Seriously? I mean, I didn't expect that they'd all be so colorfully attired as in the cartoon, but I was not expecting Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Guess I missed that spoiler.
Outlander, MvA, They, 9, and Coraline are at the top of my list; ST, RotF, T:S, Wolverine, & Surrogates will do for 'popcorn flicks'; Avatar & Watchmen are on the fence, and I'll pass on most of the rest. Especially anything Will Ferrel contaminated.
Sleestaks. Those guys scared the shit out of me when I was 3. Shuffling toward you, shooting off feeble little crossbow flechettes, going "rzzz" like the rats on a Frank Zapp album cover ...

I'd claim werewolf discrimination, but THE WOLFMAN and NEW MOON both got listed.
What have you folks got against UNDERWORLD?
