Passing a video camera in front of these paintings and then editing the resulting footage together with some loud Wagnerian music would be about 100 times more entertaining than anything Roland Emmerich has ever made.

The pedestrians in #8 seem so unaware of their impending fiery, crushed death.

But then again, aren't all NYC denizens pretty much like cockroaches? Or at least just able to shrug off anything that's not actively trying to steal their kidneys?

Isn't "cockroach" a really funny word?

I didn't see 2012 but I always thought one of the biggest missed opportunities in Independence Day had been to have distributions of the film customized for the regions they were being shown in.

That is, if you live in NY, DC, and LA you would have seen the film as is.

But if you happened to live in Boston or Chicago you would have seen clips substituted in depicting the destruction of the former Sears Tower or Prudential Center. Or if you were in San Fran or Seattle you might have witnessed the evaporation of the Golden Gate bridge or the Space Needle.

Had this been the case I might have taken a plane down to Orlando for some gratification. I'm bitter like that.

In the second image I seriously doubt that Bamboo Reef Sharks would be in such deep water. Furthermore, in the...

Oh who am I kidding? These are stupid cool and probably more entertaining than sitting through that movie.

@Grey_Area: It looks like the water has just swept into the city, hence the trucks still floating around with their lights on. The poor sharks were probably swept in by the water. As soon as the water settles they will find a better place to live.
These pictures are amazingly cool. They are my kind of end of civilization.

Although "Lava Tornado" sounds like an exotic dancer.

@Julius Seizure - Canuck: Hey, let's take further...

    Celine Dion is... LAVA TORNADO!

This girl's HOT! Even if her life is a total disaster, destroying everything in its path in a whirl of heat, you can't stop watching her...

Throw in a few bucks worth of CG destruction in between the set pieces, maybe make it look like a sexed-up HANCOCK set to music, and you could have something there... #culturepulp

@lava: Actually there was a syfy channel movie recently called "Ice Twisters" about tornadoes made of ice, of course.

Soooo, I think it's in the realm of possibilities that Lava Tornado could actually be produced. #culturepulp

@Klebert L. Hall: I have not seen the movie, so I have no idea if it is good or not, but to say people are dumb is well dumb. Okay, so not everyone likes the same movies you do, but being a highbrow elitist makes you a better person, really?

Nah, I'm dumb too - just dumb in different ways from the people who like this movie.

I sign my name, because that's the way I was taught to end a text communication. I'm old enought to have been taught proper form for letters, where your name also appears at the top and at the bottom.
