This may be the origin of the tradition of four men carrying a coffin, makes eight legs. Then again, it's probably the right amount of guys to carry a load that size & weight.

Wait, something's coming to me. I think they had "loadbeasts", and possibly something else that resembled a horse but went by a different name (riderbeasts?). But I don't remember them having six limbs, and all of Pern's indigenous creatures were six-limbed. Hmm.

Cows, sheep, goats, oxen, donkeys, horses (both draft and riding), cats, and dogs all made the trip in the form of embryos. Other animals (such as deer) were introduced, but didn't take. And all of the animals that did survive are known by largely non-familiar terms, like "herdbeast" or "runnerbeast".
