He could make a movie about the ship that was found in the first movie or go even further back to when the Preditors started hunting them long long ago. #alien
@reddingofish: As cool as that would be, the studio would never approve a script without a human p.o.v character. The story will likely be about the corporation's first discovery of the Xenomorphs and the decision to program the computers on their ships to stop at planets where these creatures have been detected. #alien
Which if the AvP movies actually hold any weight at all means sometime, possibly a few years after, the first AvP movie since there Weyland made first contact with the Xenomorphs in the artic temple. Which of course would make no possible sense.
Judging by Scott's little background quote this won't be the case, and I think we can all be thankful for that. #alien
Wow... if Scott is the father, the creature's mother must be one hell of an ugly woman but, hey, to each his own. Maybe he likes really really really ugly women. Or maybe it wasn't a woman but some farm animal. #alien
"I wonder if this prequel will recreate the super old technology and green screen computers that ran everything on the futuristic space ships, if so the crew if going to have to buy up a load of old school computer screens"
No, that would make too much sense. I'm sure we'll see ultra-modern looking ships with touch screens and holograms and shit. A-la Star Wars ep I-III.
Im being snarky, but honestly not sure how I feel about it. Its obviously more true to the original to leave its retro look intact. However, the green text, super "clicky" keyboards and a ship running on DOS with like 32kb of RAM is really going to grate on modern audiences. #alien
@GarjaWhchi: Remember, it was a mining vessel that could have been a hodge-podge of things rammed together. Maybe there's a technilogical dark age, a return to basics between now and then. I wouldn't mind seeing sleekness in the WY offices as long as the grunts still get crap computers. Hell it's like that at most car dealerships now. #alien
@Golf_Nut: You'll never have a movie like this without humans. The audience needs to sympathize with someone, and it would be nigh imposssible with only other aliens.
"I wonder if this prequel will recreate the super old technology and green screen computers that ran everything on the futuristic space ships, if so the crew if going to have to buy up a load of old school computer screens."
YES. OMG I hope they do this. It would make it feel so authentic, like a real prequel!!!!
Also, since we have cyber-punk, steam-punk, and stictch-punk... it could be retro-punk!
It's going to be LAME if we find out Weyland-Yutani ended up just bio-engineering the species all along. I think it's best if their origins are left as a mystery. They simply ARE, and just finding a way to survive and spread through the galaxy, like we would be. #alien
@TemporalSword: I hope you just invented that scenario out of whole cloth, because if it's true the "we bioengineered them all along" twist would be to the Alien series what the midichlorians were to Star Wars.
@TemporalSword: well, yes it would be for a number of reason not the least of which that it would conflict with the plot of every other alien film. if weyland-yutani bio-engineered the species all along then why would they need to bring back a speciemin of it in every other film? #alien
@TemporalSword: Not possible... Dallas said the Space Jockey looked 'fossilized'. So apparently the alien had been there far longer than just 30 years. I think this will be about the failed team who originally found the signal before the Nostromo was ordered to go to the planet. #alien
@Cenobite: Not to nitpick (I hope you're right that it's about the other team), but if the atmosphere conditions were right (i.e. dry and cold), that body could easily look "fossilized" in 30 years. #alien
@TemporalSword: Yeah, but that's just a lot of speculation based on very little info. Hopefully it won't pan out that way. I always loved the idea that the xenomorphs evolved naturally, especially because it implies that their home world would be a remarkably unpleasant place to spend an afternoon. It would seem fairly easy to explain that the space jockey was in pretty much the same spot as the crew of the Nostromo - it was sent by its bosses to collect/transport this life form as a wondrous new potential weapon/product and not given any of the information it needed to survive. How WY gets involved is the big question. Also, it's never been all that clear if humankind has had much interaction with other aliens during the time we've spent with Ripley. Given the casual way the suits toss off "It's a rock - no indigenous life," it seems likely that other colony worlds weren't so boring. Maybe the prequel will address that. #alien
@karpar: The Dark Horse comic series, now available in convenient omnibus format, did a lot to fill in the "Aliens" universe. It's not "canon" for whatever that word is worth, but they're worth a read. Unfortunately, the Xenomorph homeworld depicted in the comic is rather generic.
@Trystero: I've read a Dark Horse Aliens compilation ages ago and quite liked it, and it hinted at some elements of their home world (and I do remember it being somewhat blander than I expected). Great comics, though - their AvP treatment was actually worth filming, unlike what we ended up getting. #alien

That's the problem I have with a lot of prequels. continuity is way off. I know it's hard to backdate tech because the producers wouldn't think the public would like it. But, still, at least make an attempt. #alien
@FrankenPC: why create an alternate past for an alternate future when it makes so much more sense to make a different alternate future closer to the present? #alien
@FrankenPC: George Lucas, we're looking at you! The Star Wars prequels are the epitome of this - it didn't even feel like they were set in the universe as the original trilogy.
With Alien, a big part of the effectiveness was the look, and the claustrophobic feel of the ships; if they mess with that continuity, it will ruin so much of what worked. #alien
@RavenNemain: Well, that was Ridley Scott. He's a genius. Unfortunately, Ridley has moved on. I doubt he could make a movie that gritty now a days. #alien
@RavenNemain: actually there are numerous reasons why teh technology looks more modern in the prequels and not in the films that come later. but you probably ignored that while bashing lucas and i understand. #alien
@GreyHammer: Whoa, did you get whiplash with jumping to those conclusions? I understand the reasons that the technology would be superior in the prequels, but there is a difference between superior technology and no possible relation between the two.
I never said Lucas should be shot or anything like that, i just said that it felt like there was a lack of continuity between the two. But thanks for being so understanding. #alien
As cool as the posters are in general, I'd still have to say the coolest thing about them is that these were actually used as real movie posters. Yeah, it was for a showing at a local library, but they had a legitimate purpose for creating these, and not just because it seemed like a fun hobby.
