Time Travel: Six Reasons Not to Meet Your Mother
Science Fiction's Most Surprising Family Ties

04/26/09
If you were to travel back in time and father a child with your mother, the resulting baby should have half of your genetic material and half of your mother's genetic material. But how can you have only half of your own full genetic material and still be yourself?
So, either time travel to the past is not possible, or you couldn't be your own father no matter how hard you tried, or the resulting baby would not be you, but someone else.
Simple logic, based on biological facts. Who would think that biology could impact time travel?
(For the record, I am not the person who came up with this argument in the first place. I read it in a book several years ago, but I can't remember the title nor the author at the moment)

Your point stands with a single timeline, but in multiple timelines, if you have a child with your mother, then your child is not you, but that's ok.

Funny ass episode. This was actually the first thing I thought of when I read the title. So much for Oedipus I guess.

Roswell was a great ep. It won an Emmy, I think.

Didn't Bashir on DS9 meet his (great) grandmother on Trials and Tribbulations? And he was trying to convince Chief O'Brien that he could be his own (great) grandfather.

It also has the benefit of being a legit reason to avoid meeting (or meating) yourself in the past, where LoM clearly isn't.

That darn BBC dramatization will always stick with me because of
a.) the completely batshit costumes the players wore, and
b.) the fact that everyone called him Ooeeeeeeeedipusssssssss.....

Oeddy: .."nooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...!!!!!!!!!!"
I swear, they read their lines like they were pretending to be ghosts.
