Does this mean conservatives have finally given up on Star Trek? I suppose it was only a matter of time before they realized the Federation is a bunch of godless pro-science communists who believe in free love and social programs. (In that case, it really is cool to like Trek again.)

Star Wars, on the other hand, says that wise teachers should always lie to their pupils, and that it's totally okay to lust after your sister, which are of course bedrock principles --or is that "principals"?-- of the GOP.

The ultimate fact is that government is the evil empire as it actively seeks to destroy the rights of individuals in order to increase its power. No matter what party is in charge, there will always be those disenfranchised. No matter what party is in office we will all lose liberties as the government exerts more control over our lives.

@darthsidious_7: Or, debatably, government is an institution voluntarily entered into by a number of parties which provides a stable environment for commerce to exist in.

    I mean, "evil"? Really?

I know that you'd really like to have the right to murder your neighbors, say, or pee on my cat, but the ultimate fact is that I don't think a society that prohibits it is evil.

This political treatise doesn't demand an antithetical counterargument so much as a swirly.

Well, first, President Obama is obviously Mace Windu.

However, if Obama is Jabba the Hutt in this scenario, then his Bib Fortuna is certainly Rahm Emanuel. Joe Biden is Salacious Crumb.

Sheesh. What the hell is it with Cons and Star Wars? I still remember the "young" Repubs doing a Youtube vid about the Evil Dems and Darth Pelosi in 2005 when the Dems were the MINORITY in both the Senate and House.

Shouldn't they go back to their old SF standard of old school Battle Star Galatica (aka Starbuck with a Peen)? It fits.

Wiped out by "mindless" automatons aka Obamanauts, combining ideas that don't really go together (BSG-Cowboys in Space/GOP-Big Government and deregulation) and a way too simple view of war ("Take the guy out on the left, I'll take the guy out on the right") and logistics.

@ManchuCandidate: Republicans like clean problems with clean solutions. Stark portrayals, good versus evil, mythic symbolism standing in for gritty, messy, compromising policy.

I mean, I guess everyone likes that; I just don't think it's a really great platform to build a political party on.

"The 1977 classic movie, Star Wars, portrayed an epic struggle between a righteous outnumbered few (Rebel alliance) against a much stronger dominant government (Empire)"

Also, they need a leader who is a whiney good-for-nothing who shirks his chores to run off and fly space ships with his friends, abandoning his adoptive family to be destroyed in a kind of police cover-up
