    @Charlie Jane Anders:
    Thank you very much for this and all the other fantastic wallpaper material you folks have provided over the last couple of years. Although, in a recent fit of organizing, I collected all my wallpapers on a separate external hard-drive, and discovered I had filled over 95% of a 750 GB drive. With WALLPAPER! I think I may have a problem.... #space

    Whenever I look at pictures of distant celestial objects all I can ever think is "Crap, that's a lot of stars."

    @ManchuCandidate: Or maybe it's a melanoma. After all, with all that UV radiation, the sun's skin can't be too healthy. Mamma-sun should have used some sunscreen cream on baby-sun. Terrible, terrible parents. #space

    Wow. That is pretty incredible. Still a detailed knowledge of photography and probably thousands of dollars in equipment is needed. But it is pretty cool that a guy can load up his car, pick a spot and get photos like these.

    @burlybax: Yeah, I think it's a pretty expensive and time-consuming hobby, but it can be a hobby rather than a career.

    I love going out in the summer under the stars and drinking. Good times. Good times. Oh, and sometimes there's a telescope involved too.

    We get the see the Milky Way like that out here in New Zealand too - I'd never really seen it when I lived in ol' light poluted UK!

    @Mister_Bump: I was just about to post about that! Ended up getting lost at night out by Hokatika, jumped out of the car to walk it off, and was absolutely stunned by the sky. Insane.

    Never quite took a clear night for granted again, and the night sky's one of the first things I think about when I ponder moving back to NZ.

    Yup, My hunting lease is about 60 miles north of Abilene Texas(about halfway between Dallas and Lubbock) is in the middle of nowhere. the night sky is just filled with so many stars its unbelievable. You can even see the milky bands from the arms of the milky way. It's an experience watching those stars while hearing the coyotes howling.
