Does it really matter who'd playing the parts? It's an M. Night Shyamalan movie. That's a guarantee right there that I won't watch it.

Making all the characters white is just insulting to our intelligence. Most of the show takes place in a medieval east-Asia-themed world, not in medieval western Europe. It would be bad enough if it took place in a modern, multiracial society, with non-white characters, and they switched that up. But that's not even it! It takes place in Asia! Hey let's remake Yojimbo, keep the samurai, feudal Japan theme, but cast a bunch of white guys! WTF!

Maybe you could make a case for the swamp guys being white, but I doubt they are making the cut.

I guess I just don't get the impetus to remake this. Well, okay, I do get it--more money! But why do people keep "remaking" modern, already existing cartoons and movies? They aren't adapting a book here, it already exists on screen. Why do we need "The Ring" when we have "Ringu"? Do they just think that we whiteys are delicate flowers who can't take seeing non-white actors?

If you're not re-imagining it for a reasonable artistic purpose (think BSG) then don't make it!

As a fan of the show, I genuinely don't know how to feel about this. On the one hand, casting this kid (as great an actor as he might be) seems just as "off" as before. On the other hand, my other option was Jesse no talent, generic personality McCartney.

So I'll go with Dev. I just hope that this kid's acting makes me forget how pissed I am that they're not even trying to stay close to the original source material.

@reddingofish: The voice actors usually had American-sounding accents, but there was no "America" in the word of Avatar, just element-themed kingdoms. Clearly, the show was anti-American.

what was the reason why they didnt wnat to cast asians for the main roles?

I seriously dont get movie producers.....at least when theres some dude connected in a story, my country(Japan) tries the best they can to get a white dude in the movie....no matter how bad the actor is...

@スッパー！monkey!: Tarantino made me want to punch the screen. The rest of it was surprisingly cool... the director's commentary noted that the main actor provided his own wardrobe cuz he was a Spaghetti Western fanatic.

I think this a weirdly broad statement to make. I get what you're saying, but directors should listen to fans. They don't need to change every little thing to appease everyone, but there should be a certain amount of respect for fan loyalty. This isn't like when people bitched about Sue Storm not being blonde(when it was easily fixable), this is a little more poignant than that. It was the whitewashing of one of the few popular kids shows that features characters of Asian descent. Fans have every right to bitch about the major decisions in their favorite franchises.
