Regarding "People in virtual reality can't possibly sweat! Shoot him in the head!": I eventually decided that the point they were trying to make there was that if it wasn't real, the guy wouldn't have been SCARED enough to break out in a sweat. But, yeah.

@robling_t: Yeah, I do get Arnold's reasoning there. I'm just not sure I'd find that ironclad enough to actually kill someone in cold blood.

The X-Files' "Field Trip," with its hallucinatory plant thing keeping Mulder and Scully still while it eats them alive, is also a good fit for this list. But it is mostly notable as a handy-dandy alternate series finale.

Say what you will about the sixth season - there were still a couple worthwhile episodes that one might like to keep in canon. But post-Field Trip (which is the second to last episode of the sixth season), there's nothing. Nada. Zip.

Therefore? Mulder and Scully are still in the mushroom. ::nods::

@StanleyIrene: I thought it was pretty clear that he didn't escape, he died.

@Kishi: This movie deserved more than just a mention in this list. Sam Lowry did escape. Into death, or brain death, or catatonia.

I'm glad that somebody else remembers that episode of Batman. That was one of my favorites.

@notruth: To this day I still refer to the whole "Can't read in a dream!" tidbit as nothing but fact.

@AngryEddy: This made me laugh as I have done the same thing.

But when we read in dreams are we actually reading or are we just convinced we are reading? Are we actually connecting the words together or is it that our minds created the connection between words that we don't actually have to make the connection in the first place.
