AWESOME - I have a black superheroines/black female comic book characters, cartoon character blog and I posted about Maxine and the comment section turned into this nostalgic conversation about how great Batman Beyond was.
Batman Beyond was fantastic - just as good as the Batman and Superman animated series. Will the new miniseries also be animated or dare I hope for live-action?
Oh Static showed up in the Beyond universe twice. First in an episode where he gets brought to the future and has an adventure with Terry (Batman), and again in Justice League Unlimited episode "Once, and Future Thing Part 2," where Batman, (Bruce), Wonder WOman and Green Lantern are transported to an altered version of the Beyond universe. In that one Static looked pretty much the same, just older, and Young Batman meets old Bruce Wayne. AWESOME!!
Static Shock was a decent show, and Zeta, well Zeta was what it was.
@Dedpool3678: I never could sit through Static Shock. For some reason the show sort of grated on me.
I think it was partly the animation which looked like a cheaper variant of the Timm-style, and the soundtrack and characters which were trying way to hard to be 'urban'.
He was pretty awesome in the JLU episode too, and even in his current iteration in Brave and The Bold.
@omgwtflolbbqbye: I agree. There was just something about Static Shock that didn't work. The "urban style" and his White/Jewish friend made it seem like they were trying way to hard on diversity. I'm fine with diversity in characters, in fact I strongly promote it, just dont make them all superheroes...
FINALLY!! After the "Epilogue" episode of "justice League Unlimited" I've been craving more Beyond. However I'd really like it to be stories about the older Terry that we saw embrace his heritage as not just Batman but as a Wayne. Give us another movie too.
This is great news, the series in my opinion was pretty solid. And the Joker movie... mmm mmm good.
I Too have been Craving the batman animated series. I just recently saw Epilogue and currently got the Batman beyond series in the Netflix queue.
Epilogue did really tie up quite a few loose ends so it would be interesting to see if the story would take place after or before.
I'm completely lost for ideas as to what the topic would be! Because the old Bruce Wayne in Epilogue wouldn't be as active a supporting character on account of having to be in bed by 7.
@DeSpawn: Well they could always answer that big question from the beginning of the series that was still left unanswered in Return of THe Joker and Epilogue.
What happened to Dick Grayson?
I know they briefly mentioned he was probably still working in Bludhaven as Nightwing, but it was really weird he never got to make an appearance, especially since he is usually considered Bruce's best protege with regards to the superhero trade..
@omgwtflolbbqbye: I think in the comics he gives up being Nightwing and is just a cop in Bludhaven PD...and has absolutely no interest in the 'Bat Legacy'. He's bitter and single, I do remember that. It started when he found out Barbara was Batgirl and Bruce knew all along...I think he took off from Gotham when he found out Bruce and Barbara were schtupping. Mind you, I'm sketchy on the details.
That's kinda weird too that he'd just be a cop since I always thought Nightwing was his way of rebelling from the Bat-legacy.
This would also probably make it the only continuity where Dick doesn't become the golden boy of the next generation of superheroes...
As for Barbara/Bruce, yea I never liked that.
I saw that Timm and Dini were content with making DCAU Bruce more of a bachelor by pairing him up with Wonder Woman, and even giving him dibs on Lois Lane before Clark, which as a bat-fanboy was cool, but Barbs was just too far.
Not just cause of the age difference which is where they think was the ickiest part to the fans, but because it showed a horrible lack of conscience and self-control on Bruce's part:
1) Babs in the comics is his surrogate daughter, so it would alway feel a bit incestuous.
2) Jim Gordon is his best friend so doing that with his little girl behind his back is pretty... ugh
3) Bruce obviously knew Dick and Barbara were sweet on each other for a long time... so he basically cock-blocked his own son, and yea, scarred him tremendously and actively threw aside their father son bond for some nookie...
Jesus DCAU Bruce, now I don't feel so bad about you becoming a lonely old codger....
@My_Latest_Incarnation:
Clearly you _are_ sketchy on the details. The intent with TNBA was that Barbara would be smitten with Bruce, but not that Bruce ever returned her feelings.
@Purple Dave: In Batman Beyond Barbara seems to suggests otherwise to McGuiness...
I don't know, they did make it pretty ambigious by all accounts. Although I swear I read a quote by either Dini or Timm stating that they were trying to imply that they did have a full blown relationship at some point. I don't know how far along into the series they were when they said it, but I suppose they could have changed their minds...
Still... I think it was pretty f'ed up how they handled the whole Dick/Babs thing in that series.
I loved the series when it was on TV. All my friends hated the series, so I felt ashamed. That was before I ran across this blog, and now I'm happy to have a place to share my like for things of this nature.
Hooray! I wish the show would come back (Will Friedle was an amazing Batman), but this is still awesome. I don't know if it could work in the regular DCU, but in the DCAU, Terry McGinnis is the only person I can see as Batman after Bruce Wayne.

He basically becomes Bruce without the masks?

Although I really wish DC could just bring back the entire DCAU altogether...
It's probably one of the very best things they attached their name to.

Dark Knight cannot be topped; therefore make a Batman Beyond movie.
I really just want an excuse to hear the theme music at a movie theater.
