    Awww, I always loved the Muppet Labs segments. Actually, there wasn't a lot that happened on The Muppet Show I didn't love.

    But I'd never seen that Shields and Yarnell sketch before. That is FANTASTIC!

    A quick scan of the Muppet wiki also turned up a few other noteworthy robotic characters I'd nearly forgotten:

    M.A.M.M.A. -- The R2D2 shaped "Music and Mood Management Apparatus" robot that Dudley Moore brings to the show during his episode replaces the Electric Mayhem, and even ends up playing the closing credits.

    Otto the Automatic Entertainer -- A robotic comedian who tends to fall apart before he can deliver a punchline.

    The Talking Machine -- And of course, who can forget one of the most iconic Muppet moments next to mahnamahna. The "Talking Machine" keeps talking about it's various expensive components while a big purple monster eats them, culminating in the revelation that the machine is designed to explode if anybody tampers with it.

    @bluehinter: I prefer the original version of the "Talking Machine" sketch Henson did for Ed Sullivan, with a toothy prototype of Cookie Monster as the diner.

    Can't fault this list, though I think you need to make room for "Vendaface," the creepy robotic vending machine that rearranged many a muppet's face, and haunted my nightmares for years.

    Sadly, I know now that time travel is impossible, since there's absolutely no way anyone with a time machine and a heart wouldn't want to go back to May of 1990 and force the man to check himself into a hospital... at gunpoint if necessary.

    We often say the world would be a better place if so-and-so was still with us, but in Jim Henson's case, I believe that to be true. The man had an incredible positive effect on children, not just in the US, but around the entire world.

    @bluehinter:
    I still remember seeing his funeral on tv, with Big Bird singing 'It's Not That Easy Being Green'. I always thought that was such a cool way to send someone off.

    @therewasadoor: They also gave everybody who attended his funeral single-wire butterfly muppets. You can't get much sweeter than that.

    Beaker's been riding Dr. Bunsen Honeydew's coattails for years now. Free Honeydew!
