Not to mention their humanitarian efforts around the globe and the fact they were nominated for induction into the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame. Clearly people feel they are important, even if you yourself don't appear to enjoy their music.
On a side note, I didn't get the impression the song was being played by Kirk. I just thought it was for the audience. The soundtrack should have stopped once the car jumped the cliff anyway so the lines could be heard clearly. Maybe I'm wrong though and it was meant to be played via the car stereo. Like most movie soundtracks, the movie characters don't hear the music, the audience does.

If you were paying attention, Kid Kirk turned off the phone by hitting a button labelled "music". Best guess is that, given the vintageness of that car, the owner might have been into vintage music, but this wouldn't be the first time where the music that the character is listening to on-screen is being played separately and simultaneously for the audience.

There is a famous Shatner freakout caught on tape when he recorded the Star Trek Cartoon Series which was mocked in a Pinky & the Brain ep as well as by Howard Stern.
The writer of Futurama's "Where No Fan Has Gone Before" added a little jab about sabotage vs sabataj in the script but it was cut due to the Shat's sensitivities.
