    Being one of the haters (evil grin) I have to say, this was the strongest (and most fun) portion of the film, by far. I just found the rest of it lacking.

    I'm not looking to criticize anyone's opinion of the film -- if you loved it, good on ya. I found it to be quite boring (with the exception of that scene, which was kick-f***ing-ass). I love Asian cinema and have a sizeable collection of Asian films, from Kurosawa and Ozu to Miike and Chan-wook Park, so I'm not entirely ignorant. But this film failed to grab me at all, and it took me three viewings to get through it. In retrospect I could have skipped the second and third attempts.

    I offer this opinion not to suggest that the folks who rave about it are wrong, just to set expectations at a somewhat less drool-soaked level. I will say it's worth renting for that one scene alone.

    @ron2112:

    Yeah, I tried watching it another time as well and still couldn't get it. This is probably one of the few "cult/nerd" films that I am in complete disagreement with the majority on.

    If anyone thinks Americans can make monster movies, they are nuts.

    The Host just shows you how to really do it. Fantastic, and more importantly, leaves a strong impression for ages. Some scenes are simply unforgettable! Classic.

    Just think if Americans actually put all their film money to good use. Instead they churn out forgettable nonsense and endless sequals and remakes.

    There was debate about the merits of this film? What, with morons? Blind morons? The Host is the smartest monster film I've seen in years.

    @palinode: It is entirely possible, and quite common, for people to differ on matters of taste without the requirement that at least one of them be a moron, much less a blind one.

    Oh my gosh, that clip is hilarious with the Neverending Story theme playing! Hostie's movements do remind me of Atreyu.
