We've got lesbian vampires, both in the movies and on True Blood. Plus, Lost, Fringe, and Better Off Ted news.

Thor

Stan Lee has been tweeting about his cameo:

Due to Thor, I must start rehearsing my thee's and thou's. So, if thou objecteth not, I wish thee well! 'Nuff saideth.

He could be yanking our chains, but perhaps Lee won't be walking amongst the modern mortals. [Twitter]

John Carter of Mars

We get a casting call for several human characters and one Martian:

[SpoilerTV-Movies]

Deadpool

Rumor has it that Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will pen the Deadpool script. [Cinematical]

Green Lantern

Ryan Reynolds wants to quell fears that he'll play the Green Lantern too close to Deadpool:

"I think there was some concern that I would make Green Lantern some kind of wise-cracking Wade Wilson-type, and that's not the case at all," he explained. "If that's what they wanted, why would I have screen-tested for the movie?"

[MTV]

Avatar

The final poster gives us more floating heads. [/Film]

Lesbian Vampire Killers

New images give us some busty bloodsuckers. [ShockTillYouDrop]

The Wolfman

The werewolf movie has earned itself an R rating from the MPAA "for bloody horror, violence and gore." [ShockTillYouDrop]

True Blood

We'll be seeing more of vampire Pam next season. Kirstin Bauer is being upgraded to series regular, and Pam is getting a "meaty" storyline — and maybe a girlfriend. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Lost

Jin and Sun have been filming scenes set in the alternate reality at the Turtle Bay Hilton. In those scenes, we'll also see Keamy, Omar, and Russian Other Mikial. [DarkUFO]

Striptease workout entrepreneur Sheila Kelley will be in at least four episodes this season, but won't be playing corporate spy Kendall. As for whether her stripping skills will coming into play:

"Once you see what I'm doing on Lost, you'll get the humor in that. I guess you can say I'm bringing some of the skills onto Lost, but not as obviously as you might think."

She also says she (Kelley, not her character) is "obsessed" with Sayid, leading to speculation that she'll have some scenes with Naveen Andrews. [E!]

And a set spy grabbed a photo of the new submarine. Larger image at the link. [DarkUFO]

Fringe

Walter's wife and Peter's mother has been cast at last. Irish actress Orla Brady will play the smart and likable third member of the Bishop family. [EW]

Better Off Ted

Creator Victor Fresco says that we'll see some progress in Linda and Ted's relationship by the end of the season, and the relationship between Linda and Veronica will begin to thaw. The two women will have a few adventures together and will develop a grudging, but mutual, respect. Ted's wilder brother comes to town, played by Eddie McClintock. Ted's brother hasn't had a lot of luck with Jobs, so Ted gets him a job at Veridian Dynamics. But his brother screws up one too many times, so Ted lands him a job selling lab equipment. Phil and Lem end up being his best customers, buying all sorts of stuff they don't need, including a cadaver supply membership. Key line: "Every day we get a new dead body whether we're finished with the old one or not." The show also gets a new cast member in Merrin Dungey. She appears in three or four episodes, including one episode where Linda tries to comfort her and ends up accused of sexual harassment. But Veridian deals with its sexual harassment problem by having it reclassified as a disease so that no one can sue for it. [E!]

Heroes

This season's 19th episode is titled "Brave New World." [Spoiler TV]

<![CDATA[Awesome Clips From Doctor Who And Avatar, Plus A Major New Lost Clue]]> Four Avatar TV spots include new walker-stomping action, and Doctor Who explains temporal mechanics in a new clip. Lost set pics reveal a new puzzle piece. Plus Chuck, Fringe, Kick-Ass, Daybreakers, Dollhouse, Sorcerer's Apprentice, Better Off Ted and V spoilers.

Avatar:

A few new TV spots. Spot #13 includes some sexy heavy walker action.

And an early review from someone who's seen the film says its plot is almost non-existent, but it's like the biggest first-person shooter ever. And:

What we have is: Boy meets alien through marines, boy loses aliens and marines, boy fights marines and gets girl. And I was also told that despite all the trappings of special effects, blue people and CGI skies, Sigourney Weaver still manages to register strongly with warmth and a commanding presence.

[Hollywood Elsewhere via Slashfilm]

Lost:

So, trying to piece together all the clues in E! Online's latest spoiler column... Charlotte (Rebecca Mader) is back from the dead, but the timeline in which she's suddenly alive is not the same one in which Flight 815 landed safely in L.A. — it's the other timeline, which we'll be visiting concurrently. Charlotte will be revealed to be alive in the same time period where we saw her die. And the explanation of Charlotte's survival will blow your mind (and presumably has nothing to do with Juliet's hydrogen bomb.) Also, Jack and Rose will be reunited, and it will feel so good. [E! Online]

So if you've been paying attention, you'll have heard there's a "Temple" set being built for the sixth season, and we've only glimpsed its exterior so far. But now, some fans seem to have stumbled on the full Temple set, and it includes the expected Egyptian imagery (Anubis) , but also the Hindu Trimurti. Given that there was a little campfire with a cauldron out front, with some rotting potatoes and an old blanket, the eyewitness suspects these scenes take place on the Island in ancient times — and the Island may be a paradise for many different religions. And there are some pics. (More at the link.) [SpoilersLost]

A new promo for season six is truly "Amazing." Okay, maybe not.

Doctor Who:

Here's another new clip from "The End Of Time Part 1," in which the Doctor explains about the Blinovitch Limitation Effect (sort of) to an uncomprehending Wilf. [BlogtorWho]

Dollhouse:

The show is looking for someone to play "T," a six year old with mixed Asian/Caucasian heritage, who's fearless, precocious and adorable, in the finale. And speculation is, this might be Sierra and Victor's son in the future. [E! Online]

Fringe:

Here's a new promo for this show plus Bones. [Fringe Italia]

Kick Ass:

Matthew Vaughn says this movie won't feature the typical boring action sequences — rather, every action sequence will tell a story:

It's 11-year-old girls slicing and dicing people, and getting shot. I mean, I'm very bored of the way most of the big movies shoot action, all this shaky camera, handheld, close cutting, quick cutting. So I've tried to put a narrative story into every action sequence.

[Crave Online via Comic Book Resources]

Daybreakers:

A new TV spot shows a bit more of the consequences of running out of human blood for this vampire-dominated future. [ShockTillYouDrop]

The Sorcerer's Apprentice:

Here's a new pic showing Nic Cage looking just as magical as he has in all the other pics you've seen. Bigger version at the link. [The HD Room]

V:

Morris Chestnut says the next episodes will be worth the wait (until late March). Things about the Vs will be revealed, and they'll be pushing the envelope. [E! Online]

Chuck:

As we mentioned before, the first 13 episodes of the season have their own arc which wraps up at the end of episode 13. But then the extra six episodes, which the network added to the season after the show was moved back from March to January, will have a totally different story arc, clarifies Zachary Levi. Yay for not trying to pad out the original 13-episode storyline to last another six episodes. [Sci Fi Wire]

Better Off Ted:

Someone sends out a memo with a typo, saying "Employees must now use offensive language," so everybody starts swearing up a blue streak to comply with it. "They think it's good for morale," says Jay Harrington. [E! Online]

<![CDATA[Uncut Time Lords And Corporate Love Connections Rock Your Set]]> With regular shows beginning to go on holiday hiatus, you'd think this might be a dull week on television, but you'd be very wrong: Doctor Who marathons! Better Off Ted returning! Lots of disaster movies! We love you, television.

Monday

With Heroes and House both taking a break for the holidays, it falls to Syfy to keep us entertained today, and they're definitely trying their hardest, with Stargate: The Ark of Truth at 9am, followed by Stargate: Continuum at 11.

Meanwhile, if you went down the rabbit hole last night, you'll be happy to know that Alice continues (and concludes) at 9pm.

Tuesday

Even if the day wasn't almost entirely otherwise devoid of SF entertainment, the return of ABC's Better Off Ted (ABC at 9:30pm) would still be at the top of our to-do list. In the first episode of its new run, the employees of Veridian Dynamics find their thoughts turning to reproduction, as Ted and Linda meet their genetically compatible matches, while Veronica tries to convince Lem to donate to a sperm bank. Oh, Ted. How did we get by without you?

If satires on corporate America are a little too close to the bone, then try the first episode of Outer Space Astronauts on Syfy (also 9:30); it's a new sitcom set in outer space - Maybe you missed that in the title - but we're a little worried about it based on the episode description being "Capt. Ripley invites aliens over to the O.S.S. Oklahoma for a pizza dinner, but the aliens want the ship, too." Uh, hilarity may ensue?

Wednesday

Oh, Syfy. With a Jericho marathon from 8am through 3pm, you know how to spoil us. From there until 9pm, it's a bit of a science fiction wasteland in terms of things that aren't re-runs, so consider it the Television God's way of telling you to leave the house and go and do some holiday shopping or something. Then be back in front of the visual entertainment box in time for 9 o'clock, when Discovery has a new episode of Mythbusters, with Jamie and Adam putting more gunslinging myths to the test.

Thursday

Remember 1990s SF vampire series Kindred: The Embraced? I definitely don't, but Syfy is looking to remedy my oversight with a marathon of the entire 1996 series starring former Soul Man C. Thomas Howell, starting at 8am.

Otherwise, with FlashForward, Vampire Diaries and Supernatural already in reruns, it falls to Fringe to keep the science fiction flag flying with its new episode "Grey Matters" at 9pm on Fox. Featuring the return of Leonard Nimoy as William Bell:

Friday

Get your day started off in the right way with Syfy's Outer Limits marathon, starting at 8am. You'll only wish it was Twilight Zone a couple of times, honest.

Depending on who you believe, there's either a rerun or new episode of Batman: The Brave and The Bold on Cartoon Network at 7pm (If it's a new episode, then it'll be the Plastic Man-guesting "Long Arm Of The Law," but some schedules have last season's "Duel of The Double Crossers!" listed. Your guess is as good as mine at this point).

But even if it is a new episode, that might not be enough to steal your attention away from Syfy's Sanctuary mini-marathon, starting at 7pm and ending with a brand new episode, "Penance," guest-starring Amanda Tapping's fellow former Stargate cast member Michael Shanks, at 10pm.

Or you can keep up with the latest double bill of Dollhouse on Fox at 8pm, with the "Meet Jane Doe"/"A Love Supreme" match-up offering Topher discovering the potential effects of science, Echo losing control of her multiple memory downloads, and the return of Alpha.

Once that's done, you might find yourself switching over to Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow on Cartoon Network at 10pm, just to look at how shiny the whole thing is.

Saturday

It's All Disaster Movies All Day on Syfy, starting with Earthstorm (9am) before offering up Meteor (11am), miniseries 10.5: Apocalypse (1pm), Ba'al: The Storm God (5pm), Ice Twisters (7pm), Annihilation Earth (9pm) and finishing with Disaster Zone: Volcano in New York at 11pm. Why so many disaster movies? Why not? Over on BBC America, there's a Doctor Who triple bill of edited versions of "Journey's End", "The Next Doctor" and "Planet of The Dead" starting at 7pm, but you should really wait until tomorrow, for reasons you'll discover in a second.

Sunday

...What's that, you say? A Doctor Who marathon on BBC America starting at 1pm, including 1hr 15 minute (ie, unedited from U.K. broadcast, apart from ad breaks) versions of The Next Doctor and Planet of The Dead? I thought you'd say yes. The full rundown of episodes is:

1pm: Voyage of The Damned
2pm: Turn Left
3pm: The Stolen Earth/Journey's End
5:30pm: The Next Doctor
6:45: Planet of The Dead

All of this is a lead-in to next week's premiere of "The Waters of Mars," and the following week's "The End of Time," of course. But do you care why it's happening, as long as it's happening?

<![CDATA[Massive Thor Plot Details, Plus More From the Doctor Who Set, And Lost's Startling Secret!]]> Major Thor subplots revealed! Plus more Doctor Who set pics, including a clip from filming. Discover one Lost character's secret importance, and a few more details on Avatar. Plus: New Moon, The Lovely Bones, Fringe, Smallville, and Supernatural.

Avatar

Producer Jon Landau says that the character Jake Sully begins as a more vulnerable and sensitive character, and gradual becomes the sort of person who can lead a nation into battle. He also says that we won't see any Na'Vi or Avatar sex, just romance. [IGN]

Thor

The casting call has been put out for Marcy Lewis:

(20) Is a college student. Aloof, jaded beyond her years, she thought her internship with scientist Kate Spelling would be an easy 6 college credits. However, she's been stuck for months in this small New Mexico town and relegated to a wide range of unglamorous activities. Kate has been particularly hard on Marcy, making it her personal project to see that Marcy lives up to her potential. Marcy deals with her situation both by using subtle irony and by being an overt wiseass.

[Spoiler TV]

Doctor Who

Yesterday, we told you about the sonic screwdriver explodey scene, and the latest news is about what takes place before that. The TARDIS crashes into a garden, destroys a garden shed, and skids to its resting place. At some point, the smoke comes pouring out of the TARDIS, and Amy is dragging the Doctor away, crying "Come on!" (she still in her policewoman outfit and he in David Tennant's suit). He keeps trying to escape her grasp, screams "I must save her!"

Oh, and that TARDIS? If you peer through the brush, you can see it (Update: I mistook this for the Series Five TARDIS, but it's the Series Four):

[Planet Gallifrey]

And there's more! Here is a shot of the Doctor saying something to Amy, and Amy grabbing him by the tie and dragging him into a black car:

Planet Gallifrey says the dialogue goes something like this:

Doctor: (...), I hate (...). As much as I would like to say goodbye, (...) .... I'm sorry.
Amy: NO!
Doctor: No—no—Amy—no, what are you doing?!

Another line of dialogue heard on set:

Twenty minutes till the world ends and do you know who I am?

In another scene, the Doctor and Amy are running toward a white screen and the Doctor turns to someone in hospital overalls. Set reporters heard something about a coma and staring at a dog.

[Planet Gallifrey]

Commenter bluehinter adds a bit more:

Back in Llandaff, a scene was shot with The Doctor, Amy, and Rory where they look up at the sky (presumably at the CGI "spaceship" that other people were filmed watching earlier) then a dog barks, and Matt goes towards the beer garden, and begins talking down to something on the ground (presumably the dog, or something else to be CGIed in later).

He says "Hello, Prisoner X" and then we hear something about a "Level 20 planet scanning the earth" and "6 billion people."

He also says the February episode written by Richard Curtis will feature Van Gogh.

The Lovely Bones

Peter Jackson's post-death drama gets a moody pair of posters:

[Movie Web]

New Moon

Death Cab for Cutie is contributing a mopey track to the Twilight sequel, and premieres a few shots from the movie in their new video:

[via Cinematical]

Lost

Apparently, the first episode of the new season is going to be so laden with twists and turns that the producers have convinced ABC not to show a single frame before it airs. That's right: no clips in the promos, no teaser images, nada. They want you good and surprised. [Watch with Kristin]

There are, however, spoilers from the fourth episode. We'll learn about a connection between the Smoke Monster and the Man In Black. The fake Locke will convince an old friend to join up with him. Ben will lie to Illana about what happened inside the temple, while someone will try to convince Sun to visit the temple, claiming that Jin is there. Jacob is dead, and someone whose name has five letters will collect his ashes. Franks wants to see if his plane on the other island will still work. [DarkUFO]

Also, we now know the identity of Jacob's rumored offspring: Illana. [SpoilersLost]

Supernatural

During the episode when Sam and Dean fight Lucifer, two fan favorites meet their ends. [Watch with Kristin]

Fringe

We're headed to a small town in episode eleven. The producers are soliciting identical twins to play Tommy, a good kid who wants to see the outside world. We'll also meet Tommy's mother Rose who has a strong moral sense, and the avuncular Sheriff Velchik, an "In Town Elder." [Spoiler TV]

Better Off Ted

In the tenth episode, we learn that even execs get screwed by Veridian Dynamics. Arthur Wells, the company's brash and blunt former CEO, finds out that the company plans to vote him off the board. So he enlists Veronica to help him dig up secrets the company would rather the public not know about. Initially, Arthur and Veronica don't like each other, but they eventual bond over their shared history; after all, they both chose the company over personal relationships. We'll also meet Phil and Lem's nemesis, an obnoxious fellow scientist named Ritchie, a pretty employee named Susan, and Donald, a nervous fellow who works the Veridian swag booth. [Spoiler TV]

Smallville

Lois and Clark will be a "full blown couple" this season. [Watch with Kristin]

Zombie pics from tonight's plague episode "Rabid," including brain-hungry Lois:

[Spoiler TV]

It's unconfirmed, but IMDB is listing Emilie Ullerup as hard-drinking, hard-flirting Daily Planet gossip columnist Cat Grant in the upcoming episode "Crossfire." [Kryptonsite]

House

Cuddy and House will, in fact, hook up this season, but not before the tenth episode. And unlike last time, it won't be a hallucination. [Watch with Kristin]

Heroes

It's not set in stone, but Mohinder may get the axe sometime this season or next season (assuming the show lasts that long). [Watch with Kristin]

It looks like even when the lesbian kiss has passed, we'll still have girl-girl hazing on the table. Here's the official description for the October 26th episode, "Strange Attractors:"

THE HEROES ATTEMPT TO RESCUE THEMSELVES AND OTHERS WITHOUT THE USE OF THEIR POWERS- Matt (Greg Grunberg) goes to extreme measures to extinguish Sylar (Zachary Quinto), who continues to torment him. Elsewhere, HRG. (Jack Coleman) calls in a favor from Tracy (Ali Larter) to save a troubled young boy whose misfortunes resemble her own. While Claire (Hayden Panettiere) and Gretchen (guest star Madeline Zima) are being hazed by their new sorority sisters, they realize pledging might not be their biggest problem.

[Spoiler TV]

Sanctuary

Looks like we're in for a chase scene in tonight's season premiere:

Human Target

The fifth episode of the series is called "Rewind." Christopher Chance will be guarding someone on a plane when the plane catches fire. One person on the plane is hiding a secret. Also, Guerrero will get help from a contact named Sergei. [Target419]

Additional reporting by Alexis Brown and Charlie Jane Anders.

[via Spoiler TV]

Transformers 3

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman won't be scripting the third Transformers film, leaving Ehren Kruger, who worked with them on Transformers 2, as the sole screenwriter. Michael Bay says he'll be collaborating with Kruger on new toy-based characters. [CinemaBlend]

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

Anna Kendrick says that her character, Scott's sister Stacey Pilgrim, is pretty true to the book, and she that most of her role involves yelling at Michael Cera on the phone. She also says creator Bryan Lee O'Malley's actual sister — also named Stacey — is an extra in one of the scenes. [MTV News]

Lost

A Lost watcher ran into L. Scott Caldwell, who plays Rose, at LAX airport, where she was on her way to Hawaii to film. No word on what she's filming, but apparently she won't be working more than a day. [DocArzt]

And Locke's wheelchair and Hurley's Hummer are visible in a recent set photo:

[DocArtzt]

In an interview, Henry Ian Cusick, who plays Desmond, says that the new season picks up where it left off then "jumps all over the place," but that the cast is still as confused as ever when they pick up new scripts. He still doesn't know what happens to Penny or Desmond at the end, and he's not sure how much will be resolved, as Desmond has become a more peripheral character. [TV Guide]

Suzanne Krull tweeted that she's off to Hawaii to film for Lost. Krull played Lynn Karnoff, the woman Hurley's dad paid to pose as a fortune teller. [Lost Spoilers]

Supernatural

We're coming up on the infamous Paris Hilton episode "Fallen Idol," in which Sam and Dean go hunting and come across a town where the residents are being killed by American icons like Abraham Lincoln and James Dean's car. Hilton plays herself (or rather a demonic version of herself — insert your own joke), and she's got the Winchester boys all tied up:

Oh, and here's that much-touted girl-girl kiss:

[The ODI]

Kavi Ladnier will return as Mohinder's ex-girlfriend Mira, probably in the November 9th episode "Shadowboxing." [The ODI]

Greg Grunberg posted a POV video to his Twitter account. It appears Matt Parkman will be on a gurney at some point, and his face will be covered with gauze:

He also takes us on a tour of the show's wall of death:

Dollhouse

We'll finally get some background on Sierra in this season's fourth episode:

Sierra is forced to face her past as her connection to the Rossum Corporation leads to obsession and murder in the episode "Belonging"

And here's our first look at Summer Glau as Topher's counterpart. Nice glove:

[Dollverse]

More set pics reveal Echo and Alexis Denisof's Senator Daniel Perrin in matching outfits. They look comfy, but not quite like Activewear:

[Spoiler TV]

Better Off Ted

In the ninth episode "Beating a Dead Workforce," Ted plans to surprise Gordon Jenkins, an overworked Veridian employee, with a cake as appreciation for all his hard work. But Jenkins has passed away overnight at desk. Veronica gives an inspirational speech at Jenkins' memorial service. The employees are moved to work even harder and Jenkins becomes a folk hero at Veridian. We'll meet April, a pretty young scientist, and Perry, a "cool dude" from accounting, who both listen to Lem's fake stories about how close he was to Jenkins. We'll also meet Beaver, Perry's best friend who has trouble living under Jenkins' shadow, and Johnny, who has driven all night while on meth to pick up parts for a prototype of a new sleep machine. <![CDATA[Doctor Who's New TARDIS Revealed!]]> A new Doctor means a new TARDIS, and we've got all the rumored design details. Better Off Ted features genetic matchmaking, and Zombieland offers more survival rules. Plus Iron Man 2, Gamer, Astro Boy, Hobbit, Smallville, and Supernatural spoilers.

Doctor Who

A poster at Gallifrey Base claims to have gotten a good look inside the new TARDIS set, which we'll see in 2010. Supposedly, the interior of the TARDIS will have two different levels, joined by a spiral staircase, and we'll be seeing a console room, a lab area, a sitting room, a long corridor, and "numerous other little nooks and crannies." The set is designed to be modular, so that pieces of the set can be moved around and double as other parts of the ship, when we visit other rooms inside the TARDIS.

The console room itself is a shaped like a hexagon attached to a square rather than being circular, the color theme is mostly silver and gold, and the coral finish has been replaced with marble. The roundels decorating the walls are now inverted hemispheres, and while they appear throughout the set, they do not appear on every wall. The roundels have different color schemes for each room: gold in the console room, silver, gray, and blue in the lab, and brown in the sitting room.

You should, of course, take this with several truckloads of grains of salt. [Gallifrey Base, Thanks Bluehinter!]

Iron Man 2

As we've mentioned, Sam Rockwell's character, Justin Hammer, is actually a fan of Tony Stark, but doesn't get the attention he craves from Tony. But Rockwell tells Comic Book Resources that Hammer is also "in cahoots with a couple of people," and "kind of a shyster." And when Hammer feels deprived of Tony's attention, "that's where I think it starts to go wrong for Justin a little bit." He also says that Hammer is more insecure and ambitious than Tony Stark, which may be his downfall. [Comic Book Resources]

Zombieland

In the international trailer, we get a few more of Columbus's rules for surviving the zombie apocalypse and some hints of Jesse Eisenberg/Emma Stone romance:

The Lovely Bones

A new image shows another surreal image from Heaven as Susie Salmon looks out at a figure in the gazebo where she goes to watch the living world:

[MTV Movies Blog]

The Hobbit

Supposedly, the role of Bilbo Baggins has been cast, though just who will play the fur-footed protagonist hasn't been revealed. Some fans speculate it might be Martin Freeman, who played Tim in the UK version of The Office. [Cinema Blend]

Astro Boy

The final poster for Astro Boy has been released:

[CinemaBlend]

Gamer:

Gerard Butler explains the philosophy behind this living-video-game movie: Gamer is "a comment on science, technology, medicine and entertainment. ... How far away are we from people actually saying, 'We can create that. We can create a mini-war every day on our TVs and use people that are useless to us.'" And there's a scene where his character, Kable, confronts his nemesis (played by Terry Crews) stepping out of an elevator — and Kable pounces on him. [USA Today]

Paul:

Jason Batemen explains his character, federal agent Lorenzo Zoil:

He is the government agent that is sent to go out and grab Paul the alien and drag him back to Area 51. He's a very humorless and expressionless government agent, very similar to either Tommy Lee Jones in The Fugitive or even Men in Black and also Yaphet Kotto in Midnight Run. I've got a couple of ne'er-do-well deputies, Joe Lo Truglio and Bill Hader. It's just really, really fun. It's a road movie. These guys, Simon, Nick and Paul, are in a motor home, and I'm in a late-model black Crown Victoria in hot pursuit.

And he says they did one take of a scene where Zoil says his full name and suddenly realizes that his own name is a joke on "Lorenzo's Oil," and one take where he doesn't. [Sci Fi Wire]

Eclipse

Some blurry set photos have surfaced of Bryce Dallas Howard as Victoria seducing Xavier Samuel's Riley:

[Lainey Gossip]

Supernatural

The fifth episode, which will feature Paris Hilton, was known on audition and draft scripts as "Celebrity Skin," but has been officially titled "Fallen Idol." [Spoiler TV]

True Blood

A still from Sunday's episode shows Bill hanging by the pool with Evan Rachel Wood's character, Queen Sophie. But what's up with the sunglasses?

Chuck

New Malibu-based set photos from the first two episodes of the season indicate that Zachary Levi does, eventually, lose the beard:

[Chuck TV]

Smallville

In the seventh episode "Crossfire," Clark accompanies Lois when she auditions to host a television show on WGBS, "Good Morning, Metropolis." The show's producer recognizes the chemistry between Lois and Clark, and decides he won't hire one without the other. As a bit for the show, Lois and Clark are each set up on dates with other people, with Lois talking into an earbud in Clark's ear on his date and vice versa. Although Lois teases Clark that his admission that he grew up on a farm will earn him either a country mouse or a cougar for a date, he actually ends up dining with a stunning blonde, who leaves Lois shocked and jealous. Lois is intent on making Clark just as jealous during her date, but apparently ends up tipsy as Clark at some point whispers in her ear "The last thing you need is a drink, Lois." At the end of Lois' date, Clark tells her date he's a lucky man, which pleases Lois.

At some point during the episode, Tess is in Zod's mansion, and Zod tells one of his people that if Tess won't reveal who the Blur is, he should kill her. Also, Oliver will meet Mia "Speedy" Dearden, who wears an awful lot of red and yellow. She also happens to be a hooker with a nasty tattooed pimp named Rick, and Oliver tells her he wants to help her. And when she takes Oliver out in his Lamborghini, he jokingly calls her "Speedy." Oliver will also briefly meet up with Lois and the Ace of Clubs. [KryptonSite]

Better Off Ted

In the sixth episode "What Lies Beneath," Veridian Dynamics decides to genetically match up employees with their perfect romantic partners, figuring that they will produce children that will cost the company less money. Ted is matched up with the beautiful and charming Danielle, and though he is initially resistant to Veridian's plan, he finds himself falling for her. Meanwhile, Linda is matched with Greg, who is also attractive and charming, but has one tiny little eccentricity. When working for Veridian makes him feel small and insecure (as it would anyone), he dresses in a bear suit and goes to the park to make himself feel mighty. And a receptionist at the Veridian health clinic has difficulty keeping Phil's medical records from Veronica. [Spoiler TV]

Heroes

The eighth episode of the new season will be called "Once Upon a Time in Texas" — perhaps the episode where Hiro goes back in time to save his sweetheart Charlie? [HeroSite]

Defying Gravity

It's Halloween in stills from the seventh episode, "Fear:"

[Spoiler TV]

Eastwick

In the fifth episode, Roxie will fill in for Bun, the Eastwick tour guide, when he suffers a bout of memory loss. She may not be the best choice, though, as the tourists question her historical accuracy, and at least one thinks she's an outright weirdo when she has a vision mid-tour. One of the tourists also asks about Eastwick's tradition of burning coffins at Halloween to symbolize the release of burdens.

Apparently, the tradition doesn't go well, because later Roxie screams that there is someone in the fire. She begs a fireman to put the fire out, but he misunderstands her because of the loud music playing at the Halloween celebration.

Also during this episode, Kat and Joanna have a fight after Kat kisses Will, which Mrs. Greenberg, an elderly patient at the hospital where Kat works, overhears. Mrs. Greenberg then steps in with her two cents. And Penny approaches a group of folks outside the Eastwick Cafe and asks them if they've seen Joanna recently. When one boy, looking at Joanna's picture, comments that he'd "tap" that, Penny retorts that he's never tapped anything other than himself. [Spoiler TV]

<![CDATA[A Cryptic Iron Man 2 Mega-Building, Plus Unlikely Comebacks On Lost And Supernatural]]> Another puzzling Iron Man 2 set pic heads up our spoiler barrage. Orci and Kurtzman talk Star Trek 2 again! Startling resurrections on Lost and Supernatural. Plus Warehouse 13, Eureka, Virtuality, Doctor Who, Heroes and Better Off Ted. Spoilers incoming!

Iron Man 2:

Another tantalizing-but-cryptic set photo shows a huge greenscreen structure being built at Sepulveda basin, out in the Encino hills. What's it for? Well, obviously they need natural surroundings around whatever will be represented by the green screen. Actually, I'll throw my guess out there: the structure itself looks like a prison. Or maybe a factory, judging from the pile of shipping containers over to the side. It just looks as though the guardrails and fencing along the top walls is designed to keep people in, rather than out. More at the link. [ScreenRant]

Also, Marvel's Joe Quesada visited the set and witnessed the filming of a scene involving Tony Stark, Pepper Potts and Whiplash. And there was another scene between Tony and Whiplash that takes place in the dusk. (Or at least, it was filmed at the end of the day.) And Quesada says the movie's storyline "reflects the things that we've worked on" over the past decade — so who knows what recent comics storylines could turn up there? [Comic Book Resources]

Star Trek 2:

Co-writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have barely started talking about Star Trek, but they're talking about it to reporters once again. Orci tells Sci Fi Wire:

The debate is do you do a story where you go through some familiar things from the series, but now their outcome can be a little bit different, or do you just make it totally new? That's what we're kind of debating right now," Orci added. "We're kind of going through everything we know and love and making sure we don't leave any unexplored gems. And then also simultaneously trying to think of new things completely. So we'll see. The best idea wins, original or old.

[Sci Fi Wire]

Lost:

Apparently Dominic Monaghan had breakfast with producer Damon Lindelof, and they may have discussed ways to bring back Charlie in the final season. [E! Online]

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje bailed on the show a few years ago, but now he says he's eager to come back and give Mr. Eko some closure. [TV Guide Magazine]

Supernatural:

Adrianne Palicki, who played Sam's doomed girlfriend Jessica in the show's pilot, will be back for one episode next season. It'll be early on, but not the pilot. We haven't seen her since season two, when that demon projected Dean into the dream world where Azazel never messed with the Winchester boys. [EW]

Warehouse 13:

Hey, this warehouse-of-relics show starts July 7. And here are some promo pics. [SpoilerTV]

And here are some stills from episode 3, "Resonance." [SpoilerTV]

And maybe you haven't yet seen this trailer:

Doctor Who:

Shockingly, the Daily Mirror was blowing smoke when it reported that all eleven Doctors would appear in a Children In Need special this fall. There's no truth to that rumor, a spokesperson says. There is some talk of doing a special charity episode, but no details yet. [Digital Spy]

Heroes:

Greg Grunberg says he's getting ready to film a sequence for episode two of the new season, with Zachary Quinto, in which Matt Parkman "beat[s] up on Sylar." [SpoilerTV]

Eureka:

When the show comes back July 10, we pick up where we left off. Jack Carter has lost his sheriff gig, and his new job with Homeland Security means he has to leave town, which makes his daughter Zoe and everyone else sad. Jack's replacement is Sheriff Andy, a humanoid computer simulation who's detail oriented but possibly out of his depth. But of course, Jack finds a way to stay in Eureka. [SF Universe]

Virtuality:

Erik Jensen says his character, engineer Jules Braun, is fleeing from a family tragedy that hit him and his wife, but the show's virtual reality modules bring this tragedy up anew. And that's a theme of the show: that even going into deep space, you can't really escape from your demons. The show's as much about inner space as it is about outer space, he explains. [Sci Fi Wire]

And here are a ton of clips that Fox put up on Youtube. I don't have time to check which of these weren't in the 12-minute preview we posted last week, so I apologize if you've seen them before:

Better Off Ted:

What happens with Lem and Phil in the remaining episodes of this season? Malcolm Barrett explains:

There's a lot of more crazy experiments. There's a bio-machine that goes haywire. We learn a little something about Veronica's personal life. We learn about stuff between Ted and his dad. There's a show with an office thing where everyone is trying to work on this project, but nobody knows what it is. They just basically want in on the hot project, and that causes some craziness. ... We find out some secrets about Linda and Ted's relationship, which gets tested through some things that happen at the office.

Also, Jonathan Slavin says Phil finds out he's got an identical twin who's leading an exciting, confident life, and Phil tries to do the same, with tragic results. The duo try to splice firefly DNA with plant DNA to create an illuminated garden, but accidentally create a fire squirrel. And we find out how Phil and Lem met. [Sci Fi Wire]

<![CDATA[Better Off Ted Coming Back To Prime Time: Geek Victory!]]> Nerds have triumphed over the entertainment-industrial complex. Better Off Ted is officially coming back for the summer. Which means more Phil and Lem, which means a big fat hilarious win for everyone.

Right now there are six episodes of Ted in the can, since they only ran a half series this year. This way, it won't cost ABC as much to renew an entire season (they will be making fewer new episodes). There will be 13 new episodes total.

The first new episode will return on Tuesday night, June 23.

<![CDATA[What Your 2009-2010 Network TV Will Look Like]]> Get prepared to set your long-range TiVos. Now that the networks have all announced their new line-ups, we've got the rundown of where all your favorite (and soon-to-be-favorite) shows will be next season.

Monday
Mondays stay their relatively lowkey selves with the new schedule and, if anything, become even more quiet for SFTV; Heroes and Chuck, both on reduced seasons, end up sharing the 8pm timeslot on NBC (Heroes' 19 episode fourth season goes first, with Chuck's 13 episode third season replacing it in the spring of 2010), with Heroes and Lost alum Jesse Alexander's new show Day One taking up the 9pm timeslot on NBC in 2010. Otherwise, it's a light night, although honorary io9 shows House on Fox and The Big Bang Theory on CBS keep on keeping on (Although BBT is being moved to 9:30pm).

Tuesday
Feel free to go outside or catch up on some cable shows on Tuesdays; Fringe has been moved away from its original timeslot, and until Fox premieres reincarnation crime procedural Past Life in its former 9pm slot midseason, there's almost nothing to see here (The exception being ABC's Better Off Ted, which will start its new 9:30pm slot as soon as Dancing With The Stars finishes). Move along.

Wednesday
Just like Tuesday, we're grasping at straws here until midseason, when new Fox drama Human Target will premiere at 9pm (It'll be replacing Glee, which I shamefully have to admit having loved the preview of last week. Don't judge me). Of possible interest: ABC's Eastwick, which adapts (and, more than likely, homogenizes) the John Updike novel/Jack Nicholson movie The Witches of Eastwick, may turn out to be more interesting than the "Desperate Housewives meets Bewitched" show I'm dreading. Not currently scheduled, but almost certainly on Wednesdays in spring 2010, the final season of Lost.

Thursday
Okay, this is the night to be thankful for TiVo, or else to make some hard choices as to what to watch and what to torrent Hulu later. ABC's new Flash Forward will air Thursdays at 8pm, which is the same timeslot as the CW's equally-new-but-probably-less-good Vampire Diaries and the not-SF-but-kinda fifth season of Bones on Fox (Also, not SF at all but still potentially worth watching at 8pm: NBC are doing more SNL Weekend Update Thursday). 9pm, you'll have to choose between Fringe in its new timeslot on Fox or Supernatural in its old timeslot on the CW; Annalee's head may explode, but this is one of those occasions where my love of multiverse stories makes a choice surprisingly easy (Sorry, Winchester Bros.).

Friday
With more networks pushing more "hit" shows to Friday, I can't quite tell if that means that the old "Friday is where shows go to die" school of thinking is over, or that networks are trying to kill off some shows quietly (Hi, Ugly Betty!). There're only a couple of shows in our target demographic here, though; Smallville takes up residence for its please-God-final season at 8pm on the CW, while Dollhouse starts all over again in its old timeslot, and we keep fingers crossed that (a) it has a stronger start to the season than last time, and (b) more people tune in live this time (Seriously, DVD sales and Hulu views aren't going to keep this thing alive for a third season, people).

Saturday/Sunday
Both nights are incredibly quiet, especially following this summer's burning of remaining episodes of shows we love (Don't forget, Pushing Daisies' final three episodes begin May 30th at 10pm on ABC, and Kings is back on Saturdays next month), but we're hopeful that that'll change as various shows begin to become so unpopular that they get dumped there. Call us cynical, but we'd rather just say realistic...

Still Unscheduled
We know that ABC's V remake is a go, but it's not been given a home yet; looking at the schedules that've been announced, there's theoretically space for it on Mondays following the end of Dancing With The Stars, but somehow I'm not sure that the network would really want to pair it with The Bachelor... Perhaps they're waiting to find out when Lost is returning, to make an Elizabeth Mitchell one-two punch, or perhaps details are still being worked out about exactly how the rebooted V will work (We've heard rumors of a six episode season, a thirteen episode season and a full season so far, after all). Wherever it ends up, I wouldn't expect to see it until midseason at this point.

<![CDATA[Better Off Ted's Scientists Talk Octo-Chickens And Fire Squirrels]]> Phil and Lem are by far the heart and geeky soul of Better Off Ted. We chatted for a minutes with the hilarious duo discussing season two possibilities and new Veridian experiments.

First off I have to say, I could barely make it though the interview - these two had me laughing so hard, and you'll see why. But also, actors Malcolm Barrett (Lem) Jonathan Slavin (Phil) are extremely supportive of the new series. Plus, it sounds like there are five more episodes out there waiting to be viewed, including episodes featuring A.I. computer fights and octo-chickens. I truly hope Better Off Ted gets renewed over at ABC, even if only for additional Phil and Lem dance-offs. Tune into the season finale this Tuesday- and support the best new geek-friendly series.

What's it like being the breakout stars of a new series?

Barrett: Aw, thank you. We had no idea that was what we were. We just found that out, so thank you.

Slavin: We think we're like the bastard step children, so thank you. [Laughs] No, I think Malcolm and I think we're very lucky, in that we get to play these characters. We're not responsible for carrying the giant story lines, and so we just get to play and have some real fun. Malcolm and I have known each other for a long time, but don't tell him. I feel really lucky that I get to work with him. He makes me a better actor, because of how hard he works and how much he brings to the table.

Barrett: Oh, stop it.

Slavin: You stop it, and while I can't abide him personally and the gingivitis is out of control, I do like working with him on set. [Laughs]

The best thing about you two, besides the comedy, is you both get to get your hands dirty at Veridian Dynamics, what's been your favorite experiment or mad science creation thus far?

Barrett: I was in a jet pack! That was my favorite, going up in the jet pack it was like a roller coaster ride. That was the highlight of the season for me.

Slavin: I guess my favorite, this is so Kumbaya of me. Because I'm a vegan I like the concept of being able to grow beef without cows...

Barrett: [interrupts]...boring.

Slavin: I'm sorry, I didn't hear you because Malcolm was judging me so loudly.

I was wondering, what experiments did you guys shoot that we haven't seen yet?

Slavin: Oh sure, there are whole episodes that you haven't seen yet. We spliced plant DNA with fireflies to make fire flowers.

Barrett: You did a fire squirrel.

Slavin: Oh yeah that was an accident though. What else... the octo-parrot... no, chicken, right?

Barrett: There is an octo-chicken.

Slavin: There's a bio-computer that is half organic living matter and half computer, and its leaking some kind of goo because it has a bio-ulcer.

Barrett: We have to fight the bio-computer. We're bringing it. We're bringing the funk, okay?

What else for Phil and Lem. Are we going to delve more into your characters?

Slavin: I think always. They keep creating situations they seem to enjoy writing for us, and giving us new situations all the time. Phil sort of has this bizarre unrequited love thing for Veronica, that keeps coming up again, and again. Lem goes on his little date, which is the most precious thing you ever did see.

Barrett: We find out little secrets behind Phil and Lem's relationship.

Slavin: There are a few secrets and lies that are going to be uncovered.

Barrett: We'll end up finding out that one of them is lying about something to the other.

Slavin: Which, of course, is the ultimate betrayal.

Barrett: It's an ultimate betrayal in romance.

What's it like working with Portia de Rossi? She's got amazing comic timing, and you guys seem to fit right in there with her.

Slavin: Portia is great. She's incredibly generous as an actor. She's really fun to be around, and work with as an actor. She's so funny, and it seems like she's so effortlessly funny. She's not afraid of just plugging right in with you and delivering, giving you as much as possible so you can react back. She's great.

Barrett: Whenever the camera is turned away from her she gets a stand-in. [Laughs].

Slavin: She does not, he's lying. Whenever I'm talking to Lem and you don't see him its tennis ball on a stand.. [Laughs] Noo, its a great cast, great cast.

Do you guys ever improvise anything on set, any of your great moments?

Barrett: Noooo.

Slavin: No they don't like that.

Barrett: They're not big fans of improv at all. And I think it's because the rhythm is so specific, to just try and throw things in without sort of knowing breaks things up too much. It can kind of derail the train. Although I'm always willing to derail the train.

Slavin: The show has a very, very specific tone and they work really hard to write it.

Barrett: If it sucks more, its because I free styled more.

Slavin: It's hard to improve on the script.

What are the chances for another season, are you guys feeling positive about a new season?

Barrett: I feel positive. We've got a bunch in the can, the network's been behind us. They are pumping us now, so folks will watch the season finale. So we've got a good chance. I'm a pessimist, I don't see nothin' until it happens. I don't trust nobody until the puddins' in there.

Slavin: What, pudding? Are you talking about pudding?

Barrett: But that's because my Dad left me.

Slavin: Aw I wish you could see us right now, because I'm holding him.

Barrett: But yeah, it's not ABC's fault...

Slavin: I'm not the most optimistic person either, and yet I am hopeful about this show. I feel like we have a good shot. ABC has been very supportive of us. They like what we're doing creatively. They've been real upfront about that. You know, we're getting great press from people like you, saying that this show started out great and gets better and better. People are finding it. I think the trick is not to make people like it, the trick make people watch it once, and then they'll come back.

Barrett: Plus I have pictures of Steve McPherson naked, so... he doesn't want that out.

Slavin: Well played, well played.

How many episodes do you have in the can for a possible next season?

Slavin: We have five episodes, I think, that have not aired that we shot this year. And they're great. They picked these seven or eight that we aired, because it was an abbreviated season.

Barrett: It was an abbreviated season, so we wound up showing an abbreviated amount of episodes, so we still have some left. That will hopefully get used.

Slavin: You think, add that to an order next year and you have a full season.

I feel like your fan base is growing. Are you getting recognized on the street yet?

Barrett: Yes they are, I was at a restaurant and somebody said, "Are you that dude?" And I said "yes I am," and she said, "I love the Chappelle Show."

Slavin: Wow. [Laughs]

So if you could dream up the next product to come out of Veridian what would it be?

Barrett: More jet packs.

Slavin: What would I want to see happen...oh...hmmm.

Barrett: [Interrupts] Something that rescues animals...

Slavin: I know right? A cure for intolerance. [Laughs] Ah that's so who I am, it's so not funny. I'm so crunchy granola, I'm so bad. A home for every unwanted kitten. A uni-goat.

Barrett: I would love one of those.

Do you have to learn all the scientific terms you guys say on the show?

Slavin: Oh my god, always. Unless they add things at the last minute, then I have no idea what's happening.

Barrett: As an actor you want to know what you're saying, unless they add stuff and you can't do anything about it. But I feel like they don't always know. I mean they'll know, and do their research, but I'll ask, how do you say that? And they say, "I don't know." It was ooplasm.

Slavin: Ooplasm. We had to have a discussion about the ooplasm cultures versus the cytoplasm cultures. We had to do a lot of work to find out how we were going to say it.

Barrett: No one could agree on how to say ooplasm.

Are either of you like your characters or find yourself in similar situations?

Barrett: I think there are aspects of us in the characters. In a future episode you see Lem go on a date. And I think a lot of how, as cocky and arrogant as I am, a lot of how he interacts with her is how I interact with women to an extent. I went to a Math and Science [school], so I know what it's like to be "the nerd." So yes, there is a bit of me in there.

Slavin: Totally. I'm not as emotional as him, because I've learned to shut down, but I mean certainly, I'm very, very passionate about the things I believe in, similar to Phil. And I'm pretty awkwardly afraid of large groups of people in a way that Phil would be as well.

Barrett: Yes, Jeff and I have weird social anxieties that you probably won't be able to pick up on.

Do you think that we're in a new era of geekdom, since you guys are receiving most of the praise for your work on the show, clearly the audience is loving the two scientists.

Barrett: I don't know. I hope so. I like nerds.

Slavin: It's really fun not to have to ever think about being "the pretty" on the show. You know what I mean? I think that smart is sexy, and driven is sexy and passion is sexy and if you're passionate about Math so be it.

If you haven't seen them on Better Off Ted yet, catch a few video highlights below, and make sure to tune in tonight on ABC at 8:30 PM.

<![CDATA[Can Lost Undo Last Week's Damage? And What's Alpha's Deal?]]> After last weeks colossally upsetting Lost , let's hope that this week's episode attempts to repair some of the damage. Too bad it's all Jack and Kate. Also, get to know Dollhouse's Alpha a lot better.

Monday:

Movies:

So now that many of you have seen Wolverine, tell me, which one was better? The new prequel, or X-Men The Last Stand, which is on at 5 PM at FX or Origins?

A virus is spreading, in this remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and it's not the botulism injected into lead actress Nicole Kidman's unmoving face. The Invasion is on at 3:30 PM on HBO.

Old men get launched into space to save the world and make old people jokes — because they're old, and that's why it's funny. Space Cowboys is on Cinemax at 5:45 PM.

Tuesday:

Fringe -
This week Fringe reaches into their never ending bag of creepy old man villains and pulls out... a Trekkie. How timely. But also, the Observer knows something that is upsetting Walter, which is not okay in my book. Back off, baldie, this man is a national scifi treasure. Fringe is on Fox at 9 PM.

Better Off Ted Clip:

Lost -
Lost, Lost, Lost....what you did last week was unacceptable. The screams of a thousand Daniel-loving geeks pierced the night air, how could you? Now all I'm left with is a domesticated house cat Sawyer and a plot that revolves around Kate and Jack trying to save the island. I may never forgive this show for that. But perhaps by trying to execute Faraday's final plans, Kate and Jack will actually manage to press the magic "reset button" and bring Daniel back to us — but we all know the show is too smart for that. Lost is on ABC at 9 PM.

Lost Promo:

Mythbusters -
The magic-bullet myths are tackled in this week's Mythbusters on the Discovery Channel at 9 PM.

Movies:

An athletic teenaged lycanthrope experiences the trials and tribulations of high school in the 1980s. Teen Wolf — the man, the legend — is on 8:30 PM on Cinemax.

Thursday:

Nothing but Star Trek Enterprise and TNG on the Syfy Channel from 8 AM until 8 PM, and then Star Trek: First Contact airs at 9 PM

Smallville -
So this time on "Chloe does crappy things to her friends," Davis is still alive and Chloe thinks she can control him by being around him 24/7... because, yeah, she's that good. Oh wait — looks like it's not working out, and everything all of her friends and ex-fiance told her was true, who knew? Ugh, what a waste of the Doomsday character. Smallville is on the CW at 8 PM.

Supernatural -
Time to get Sam to kick the demon-blood habit, so cue the intervention music and watch as Sam spirals down a predictable drying out, Trainspotting hallucination session. Let's pray for intervening angel fights to break up the predictable coming clean episode, Supernatural is on the CW at 9 PM

There is another Star Trek: Enterprise marathon at the Syfy Channel from 8 AM until 5:30 PM.

Dollhouse
After falling madly in love with Alan Tudyk's crazy eyes, we're dying to find out more about his Echo obsession (and who'd he download into her?), plus did anyone else catch the name of the new girl... Whiskey? The season finale is on Fox at 9 PM.

Dollhouse Promo:

Movies:

It's actually a banner day over at AMC, with Poltergeist at 1 AM, Mystery Men at 12:30, Highlander at 3 PM and Star Trek: Nemesis at 5:30 PM.... I don't think you really could do much better, as far as taste and range here, unless you swapped out Nemesis for Khan).

Saturday:

Movies:

Join Will Smith as he continues in his quest to save the earth from all forms of CG-animated miscreants, in Men in Black, at 4:15 PM on TNT.

My favorite women-power, women-kill-each-other-with-sharp-things-in-the-dark movie of all time, The Descentm is on at 9 PM on the Syfy Channel. Make sure you see it because the sequel is right around the corner.

Sunday:

It's a Mother's Day Eureka marathon on the Syfy Channel, from 9 AM until 6 PM. I have no idea why.

Movies:

Have a freaky Sunday, and remember how hard it is to be a mom, with a teenage girl stuck inside of her. The original version of the classic Disney body-swapping caperFreaky Friday is on at 6 PM on AMC.

<![CDATA[Better Off Ted's Nerds Are Still Funnier Than The Pretty Kids]]> Better Off Ted has certainly hit its stride with geeky characters Lem and Phil. While Portia de Rossi's wit is slowly catching up, it's the scientists who carry this endearing little sitcom.

This week, Lem addressed his anger at Phil for allowing Veridian Dynamics to freeze him for one year (thankfully, he was accidentally thawed out after a few days). Phil had completely forgotten how this would dramatically change Lem's life (since they'd been lab partners for ten years as well). It was so adorable, I could cry when the two got in a spat and made up. Seriously if Ted gets canned I'm going to miss these two the most.

Also in this episode, Veridian Dynamics wanted to grow their own beef (cow free) with Portia de Rossi spearheading the developments. Last week I mentioned that I still hadn't really responded to Portia's character, but this episode yielded a much bigger pay-off. Mainly because she stopped being "scary boss" and tried to talk to the commoners, and her spot on timing really nailed it - from trying to seduce Phil into not suing the company, to creating a fake award that she later coveted. I'm not so sure how much staying power this character has, but I'm in for at least a season.

The good looking, monologuing-into-the-camera main character Ted's warm sensibility continues to guide the show forward, as the predictable straight man. But I worry that he may eventually need something else to do beside pining after the new office employee, because it's the second episode and I'm already tired of this going-nowhere relationship. All in all it was another sweet little half hour that I enjoyed - more so than what's become of a lot of other TV sitcoms (cough cough Scrubs). But it still can't hold a candle to 30 Rock's wit or How I Met Your Mothers' heart. Hopefully Ted can figure out what type of show it is fast, before people stop watching, because I want more Lem and Phil.

<![CDATA[Nerdy Scientists Are TV Champions, On Better Off Ted]]> Last night ABC debuted its quirky new sitcom, Better Off Ted. It takes place at Veridian Dynamics, where awkward brainiacs are coaxed into getting frozen by their pretty superiors. Thankfully, the geeks steal the show.

Science fiction comedy is a hard sell, but even though Better Off Ted debuted with somewhat dismal numbers (around 5.8 million) we've got moderately high hopes for the series.

The comedy takes us to the offices of Veridian Dynamics, where the good-looking protagonist Ted (Jay Harrington) carries on a running monologue aimed at the camera, as he leads us through an average day where his minions work on weaponizing pumpkins and building other sorts of inane and zany products. Ted spends the day pleasing his cold-as-ice boss (Portia de Rossi) and flirting with the new girl Linda (Andrea Anders). It's a sweet little "getting to know you" comedy, and Anders has a fresh delivery that makes it fun to watch her on screen.

But the side characters, Lem (Malcolm Barrett) and Phil (Jonathan Slavin), awkwardly scamper away with the audience's hearts. Their slightly sad and debilitating mannerisms make you immediately root for these weird little nerds. Especially when you see them getting pushed around by the company's preternaturally beautiful upper management.

But in general, we're not won over by Ted just yet. Some of the show was too cute for its own good, while other moments felt about right. Sadly, I don't know if the show will take off, but I'm rooting for the series to focus more on Lem and Phil.

<![CDATA[Could Better Off Ted Save The Science Fiction Comedy Genre?]]> Move over floppy-haired faux nerds: ABC's new series, Better Off Ted, is bringing the real comedic heat, pairing the reliably funny Portia de Rossi with robot mice. Definitely a step in the right direction.

The comedy follows the comings and goings of the employees of Veridian Technologies and all the fantastic experiments they run on one another. After watching the trailer, it looks quite promising. Portia de Rossi is always hilarious, and overall the pace, jokes and banter seem quite clever (that could just be the editing though). Ted feels like a show that is about 75% smart humor, which is a rare bird on network TV. And we need more stories about private corporations that build pumpkin weapons and misuse their employees. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go change the interns' feeding tube.

Here's the "official" synopsis:

Better Off Ted is a satirical office comedy featuring a successful but morally conscious man, Ted, who runs a research and development department at a morally questionable corporation, Veridian Technologies. No achievement is too far fetched and no invention too unorthodox for Veridian. Need a suicidal turkey? Done. Need a metal that is hard as steel but bounces - and is edible? Done and done. Ted loves his seemingly perfect job; he loves his superhuman boss, Veronica, and colleagues Lem, Phil and Linda, but he's starting to take a closer look at the company's extremely questionable practices... especially when they try to cryogenically freeze one of Ted's scientists for testing purposes.
