Beyonce Knowles As Wonder Woman? Yes, Please |

Either Gina Torres or Morena Baccarin as WW would work for me; since it looks like Morena was ruled out, she can play a fellow Amazonian sent to retrieve Wondy from the perilous outside. Jewel Staite can be Etta Candy, intrepid and awesome sidekick. Summer Glau probably won't quit SCC, but it'd be nice to see her as a young Wonder Girl, cheering WW's exploits. Christina Hendricks can... um, be Cheetah.
Whatever, the point is I don't trust Beyonce to get the acting right. Still, I can see her looking the part more than Fox or Biel, so that's points for her. Next speculation, please!

Why is it that Joss Wheadon fans can only see projects through being acted by the "Joss Family"?
Cause they're awesome?
Oh yeah, I forgot.

Wonder Woman's race is more vitally important to her character than Storm's is to hers. I could see a black Bruce Wayne, a black Clark Kent, or a black pretty-much-any-other-well-known-DC-character (in fact, now that I think of it, I'm kinda surprised I can't think of any Elseworlds titles that play with that idea), but Wonder Woman is _Greek_ by definition, and the Greek pantheon would be extremely unlikely to craft a person to be their champion who didn't look straight-up traditional Greek. Note that there is typically a high number of blonde Themyscirans, but Wonder Woman always has pure black hair, just like one would expect of a Greek person.

"Beyonce Knowles As Wonder Woman? Please..."
She wants to be in an action movie because she thinks it'd be cool? Sure, that worked out so well for Halle Berry in Catwoman and Die Another Day. Look, to do an action movie like that, the star desperately needs to have some formal hand-to-hand combat training, preferably before the deal is signed.
If Wonder Woman, specifically, is cast with a black woman, there will be trouble. Themyscira is entirely populated by Greek women, right? And while some Greek genotypes do lean heavily towards the Western European look, I can't think of any that look downright African. Without heavily screwing with the backstory to pointedly state why a Greek woman looks African, the only thing that's going to come to mind is the fact that she was formed out of mud and dirt. And that is _not_ the sort of message you want to accidentally send.
It's bad enough that the upcoming animated version is being voiced by Felecity, but can't they just do the right thing with a live action movie? Find someone with actual Greek heritage, who can really hold her own in a fight, and has some decent acting chops. Then make a movie.

No more musicians in movies, and no more movie stars in music.

Being altitudinally challenged myself, I take great offense to this.
Alan Lad, Brad Pitt, Sly Stallone, Tom Cruise, Dustin Hoffman and Al Pacino, just to name a few that are differently heighted, all have managed to play larger than life characters on the big screen. It's called "Movie Magic" for a reason.

Having said that, Beyonce is not a particularly good actress. Further, she records in my building and I ride the elevator with her (and her massive bodyguard) regularly. She doesn't have the...stature or presence Wonder Woman needs.
Sadly, all the names floated around at women to portray Wonder Woman are young and nubile. Wonder Woman should be played by an actress with maturity and presence. Claudia Black is my choice for Wonder Woman.

Claudia Black -- interesting choice. As a fan from her Aeryn Sun days on Farscape, I could see it working.
Might I suggest a further progression? What about a DKR-type slant -- as a slightly older, independent woman trying to allay here childlessness in her secret identity, which may or may not be an issue in her _real_ life.
The 4th and 5th decades in women's lives seem to be missing from popular culture. It need not be gritty, just convincing.

Claudia Black looks too old, isn't that great an actress, isn't at all a big-name actress, and isn't all that suited to an action role.

Having said that, Beyoncé may be a great entertainer, but she can't act her way out of a soggy paper bag. But then, neither could Lynda Carter, so how important is that part anyway?

"Prince of Denmark" doesn't necessarily carry any racial expectations. Being part of the Amazon race, which has been sequestered away from pretty much everyone (and not allowing any men on the island long enough to contaminate the gene pool) sorta does. Sorta does a lot.

????
Sorta does. Sorta does a lot.

Not at all. If the King of Denmark marries a Martian and has a son with her, then the Prince of Denmark will be half-Martian, yes? And if that Prince, when he becomes King, marries another Martian and has a son, then that Prince of Denmark will only be 1/4 human, yes? And...well, suffice it to say that if they keep marrying non-Danes every generation, eventually the royal family won't be recognizably Danish. Ergo, no racial expectaion for _a_ Prince of Denmark. Maybe for the a specific Prince of Denmark, but not a Prince that's selected at random.
@amygdala:
Greek mythology is rife with people being constructed through non-standard means (particularly when it came to the offspring of gods), and, shock of shocks, if they looked human, they looked Greek. It is entirely to be expected that Wonder Woman should look Greek. Y'know, that whole "made in his/her/their image" thing.

Eva Mendez is possibly the worst actor working today...worse than Alba, if that's possible.
11/08/08
but she CANNOT ACT - at all.....
when I saw this a few days ago, I was just WAITING for it to be posted here so you guys could lambaste the idea... but you're amazingly receptive to it.
i think it's a terrible idea, personally.
she's a great singer, but one of the worst actresses the world has ever know.

NO, PLEASE. Beyonce is a terrible actress. Absolutely terrible.
"You know you want this to happen. If nothing else, think of how awesome the theme song would be."
I don't want this to happen, and if the theme song is anything like her music or Destiny's Child .... then it will utterly SUCK.
