I agree. Naveen Andrews would be SOOO much better. He is a good actor and he is good to look at. No offense to Will Smith, but he's becoming a little tired to me. He's getting the 'Denzel Washington Syndrome' wherein he plays the same character in everything no matter who the character is...
McG is a fucking terrible director, and it really bums me out to hear that he's the one remaking 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. The guy needs to go back to directing shitty rock videos. Goddamn you McG.
Will Smith is definitely capable of playing in comedies, but anything else ... he's complete shit (I Am Legend for example).
I wish someone would take this out of McG's hands after seeing what happened with Terminator. This guy has all the directing talent of my butthole, and somehow he keeps getting these big properties that could be really great in the hands of someone with even a vague sense of taste. My only hope is that this film becomes the horrendous disaster that finally gets McG blacklisted from Hollywood.
God this sounds like a terrible idea. But I guess if Pirates of the Caribbean worked (at least monetarily, and I thought that idea sounded horrific), what the hell do I know.
Plus, isn't Captain Nemo usually depicted as either a Hindu or a Sikh?
In The Mysterious Island, yes. In 20,000 Leagues, his ethnicity wasn't explicitly mentioned, but Verne's intention at that point was reportedly to have the character be Polish.
In "20000 Leagues" Verne meant him to be Polish because the French were largely sympathetic to the Polish fight against Russian occupants. However by the time "The Mysterious Island" was finished, the public opinion turned against the Poles due to their involvement in Commune of Paris, and the publisher forced Verne to change Nemo's nationality.@Srynerson:
@tetracycloide: But there are all those big-time Hollywood types who get all moony over Tibetan Buddhisim. "See it's nothing at all like the ___ Church I was raised in, it's so...so Other! And isn't the Dalaii Lama so well-spoken? Look, he gave me a scarf!!"
@crashedpc : ゴキブリ and 蟑螂 division: "But all of the world's problems can be solved by following the Tibetan's example. Free Tibet! The future is in feudal theocracy!"
Sorry, what was the topic agin? Oh yeah, McG directing a Captain Nemo movie.

I would LOVE to see Naveen Andrew playing Nemo!

He can act (does great as guy with mysterious tragic past), is easy on the eyes, and is actually Indian.

Truly, Will Smith is a one trick pony. I wish he would go away, and take his son with him as well.

Actually I thought that the last Pirates movie was right on par with Transformers 2. And by that, I mean they're both shit.

And I like "Chuck."

I'm still hoping for Naveen Andrews. Indian, hunky, does good with the mysterious thing.
