interesting visuals, but the premise is just too ridiculous for me. i love the tone and the crazy war machines ... what i can't buy is that the two opposing sides would develope two completely differnent, in fact opposite, technologies. why not combine both? seems like a kid's book.

Quick poll: would you choose the machines or beasties? Although I have much love for the terminators, i'd go with the darwinist in this situation.

Clankers all the way! Which I guess means I'm rooting for the Central Powers? Oh well.

And the son of the Archduke on the run from his father's killers? Can I expect Serbians to give chase with their mighty war squirrels?

"...where the death of Archduke Franz Ferdinand triggers an all-out war where mechanical weapons face off against airships made from giant squid and whales."

How is this different than what actually happened?

    I'm confused.

I really enjoyed the Uglies/Pretties series by Westerfeld. This looks fun as well.

I would love to see a movie based on this or Philip Reeve's "Mortal Engines".

@Citizen Rat: Reeve's stuff is great - and he's just released a primer of sorts for the world he's built in Fever Crumb.

Mechas vs Mutants? Sweet. I just hope if they do turn it into a movie (which they should) they don't give it to someone like Micheal Bay.

"That means your DNA could eventually be reprogrammed with a shut down command."

    It already does: Jack Daniels

But seriously, woulndt programmable DNA open the door for eternal youth, perfect health and such?

@termitehead: As I understand it, the odds are low. You might get a virus that could conceiveably have been a super plague under normal circumstances but the next generation of viruses wouldn't be the superplague.

Or you are pretty much giving the virus a viral equivalent of cancer.

    I'm not actually sure.
