Of those in the list provided, I think UFO and Lost in Space have the best chances, if done right.
If they're made without any silly slapstick humor, and with a strong background story, they both could be huge successes. This is particularly true of Lost in Space. Make a LIS for grown-ups and you've got a winner.
Oh, and get the actor who plays House MD to play Straker. Their facial similarities are uncanny.
Edited: And, about Farscape, I watched quite a few episodes but couldn't find the show interesting enough. Boring, boring, boring. And, sorry, but puppets? Seriously? What is this, now? 1977?
@Roklimber: The actor you are thinking of from House MD is Hugh Laurie. And in the right hands, puppetry is a high art. Some of the most dramatic stories I have ever seen have been done entirely with puppets such as the plays done in the Bunraku puppet theaters of Japan.
@Bill-Lee: Yes, I knew his name (I've watched all seasons of House already); I just couldn't remember it and didn't bother to look it up. Doesn't he look like the actor who played Straker in UFO, though?
I agree that puppetry is a great art, but it felt totally at odds with the rest of the show. It killed any suspension of disbelief I might have had while watching it. I just couldn't immerse myself in the show because of the constant reminder.
That's just my opinion, of course. I know that Farscape has a following and I respect that other people like it a lot. I just thought it was boring, and the puppets killed it for me.
@Roklimber: I am actually with you - I watched about 10 episodes of Farscape, and I just couldn't understand why people were raving about it and why it had such a strong fanbase. The puppets themselves were not the reason I gave up on the show, but it's not like they provided me with a reason to stay, either.
I still say Earth 2 had a great concept and room for expansion into a truly epic space opera, but was made about a decade too early. (Not only because the extremely Lost style of storytelling/character development has now become the "in" thing to do, but the special effects at the time were prohibitively expensive for a show that never quite made it past "cult" status)
Also, if they do a remake, Tim Curry is not allowed to enter any premises within 1000 feet of the production crew.
I watched it in original broadcast, and everyone I watched it with was in pretty much complete agreement that Tim Curry was the best part of that show. Even the fact that they cast The Kurgan didn't hold a candle to Curry.
It may have been ahead of its time, but it was also tediously slow at actually building up anything that resembled actual plot. And this is coming from someone who thoroughly enjoyed the first season of Babylon 5.
I can't believe I almost forgot Marjorie Monaghan as Jojo Thorsen from Space Rangers: Valley Forge. To a 13 year old, she was hottest space pilot around.

Regardless of how you feel about the Machine Crusade series, you'll get the high tech stuff plus far more space battles.

Remake Earth 2 and keep Curry. Send another expedition and figure out that darn mystery. Heck, they can meet up with some of the old cast.
