    Brad Meltzer's comments remind me of a conversation i had with my editor earlier today (he's currently going over a new story of mine) he told me "it's a great story! but we need to have a talk, you really need an editor."

    and than i found myself wondering what he does all day....

    I found it interesting reading The History of Middle Earth volumes and seeing how the story evolved. There were things that Tolkien knew no longer fit the story (like Tom Bombadil), but he hadn't the heart to throw them out. Also, there were fundamental differences that remained almost until the end. For example, Strider was a hobbit named Trotter for a long time, before eventually becoming Aragorn and central to the story. #books
