At its most frequent, the patient self-stimulated throughout the day, neglecting personal hygiene and family commitments. A chronic ulceration developed at the tip of the finger used to adjust the amplitude dial and she frequently tampered with the device in an effort to increase the stimulation amplitude.

I foresee similar results when sexbots are unleashed on the world. #wireheads

There's a short story in Spider Robinson's Time Travelers Strictly Cash where a man walks into an apartment to find a naked woman starving to death in a chair, hooked up to some kind of wire-heading apparatus. #wireheads

@Anekanta - Space Hippy!: Spider Robinson later adapted his short story "God Is An Iron" into a 1988 novel "Mindkiller", and admits in the afterword to borrowing the idea from Larry Niven's 1969 story "Death by Ecstasy". #wireheads

In 2004 a pain specialist developed a spinal cord stimulator that had an unexpected side effect - it produced very pleasant orgasms in women. He named in the orgasmatron after the device in the film Sleeper. Unfortunately, the thing uses electrodes that have to be implanted surgically.
    Universal health care NOW!!! #wireheads

Read this about 2 weeks ago on Gizmodo.

I'd hate for some crazy country to get their hands on this and use it as a form of torture.. I mean, the test subject got highly addicted to the point of self mutilation.. That can't be good for the Geniva Convention.. #wireheads

This sounds a lot like the plot of Milo Manara's Click.

Uh, a friend of mine used to read a lot of dirty comics.

There was a Deep Space Nine episode like this. Garak, the Cardassan tailor/spy, has an implant that he uses to stimulate the pleasure center of his brain. He uses it to get him through the misery of being in exile on the station, and when it starts to go wrong he has to go cold turkey without it. I didn't get the impression it was an orgasmic experience, but it did involve goosing the happy part of his brain. #wireheads

That is NOT an article in Nature, it's in the International Journal of Impotence Research, which is published by the Nature Publishing Group. IJIR isn't even close to Nature!
