You ask, "Why is the companion carrying the Sonic Screwdriver?" Just so the other Doctor has to ask for it, leading Tennant to say, "What?"
Alright, here's a serious question. If all the Doctors are the same person, just in different bodies, why don't they all act the same? (Besides the obvious, "They're different actors, dummy." I mean is there anything in the canon that explains this?)
What if he's a parallel Doctor? Leaking over from the Torchwood universe? (I mean, where'd the Cybermen come from, anyway?) It never was established in the show if it's only our universe that has Timelords.
Possible, but I doubt it. There is evidence that the Timelord's exist outside of reality, so there is only one Doctor, one time lord race, one Gallifrey.
@zenseeker: Yes, that's pretty much been subtexted through the whole series. Besides, if there were alt-Timelords, the Doctor would be somewhat less emo about being "The Last of the Timelords!!*"
From above list, I'd be thrilled with Eddie Izzard, Billy Connolly, or Stephen Fry in Equal measure. They are all quirky-looking/acting though still quite attractive as is necessary for film work.
Anyone who thinks Izzard is a bad choice just hasn't seen THE RICHES. Man's a brilliant actor.
I'm still pulling for Paterson Joseph, though. He was fantastic as the Marquis de Carabas.
@JennaW: The only problem with actors like Stephen and Eddie and Billy (we're all on a first name basis) is that their persona is so huge that it can be less of "the Doctor" and more of "EDDIE IZZARD!! asthedoctor". Not to say the man isn't a great actor, but they all have this presence and this sort of familiarity, you know?
I am with you on Paterson Joseph. I would LOVE him
Our glorious leader, the TOG-meister, Sir Terry himself is indeed prone to, and proud of, his senior moments.
Neither is he above embellishing the truth in order to raise the profile of his favourite charity, Children In Need.
As for the suggestions re the new Doctor, Bill Nighy, Eddie Izzard, Billy Connely, Eric Idle; they sound like some of the worst stunt casting imaginable.
Current tabloid and bookie favourites in the UK are Colin Salmon, Paterson Joseph or Tom Ellis.
@sean.piggott: I'm on bored with Paterson Joseph and second pick being Colin Salmon. Both seemm like they could do the role well and make it their own.
Is that a recent quote from Moffat or from a 1999 interview in Doctor Who Magazine, as Outpost Gallifrey is suggesting? It seems weird that he would say that considering his more recent comments on needing a young-ish actor who can handle the physicality of the role.
@greenland: Yeah, it's the old quote. Still though, there was recent confirmation somewhere (::gestures vaguely::) of a preference for Doctors in the general vicinity of 40. Tennant is 37, and Eccleston was 41 for his run.
