He failed by letting Brett Ratner take over for him so he could do Superman, which failed. His last two major projects failed. Why should anyone give a crap about what he wants to do?
I hope Bryan Singer isn't brought back for a new X-Men film. The last thing we need is another declaration of his man-crush on Wolverine.(What I'm saying is, how about a frgging X-Men movie for a change?)
@Paul_Is_Drunk: I like the movie, too, but I never bought ScarJo as the best female to fill in that role opposite McGregor. I don't know who else I would put have in that role, though. I might need to go back and rewatch that, too, but I definitely thought it was one of her weaker films.
Of course, it was a Bay film so she basically filled the role of eye candy that occassionally screams her lines or when in immediate danger.
Ewan is a fantastic actor, I think he's great in just about anything - except that movie he did with Michelle Williams and the other one where he is involved with the underground sex club ring.
And ScarJo is eye candy. I love her in Lost in Translation. Don't know about her as Black Widow. Can one really take her seriously enough to be a female hero lead?
I bet he does. After Superman Returns failed to set the world's ass on fire while the X-Men franchise still makes tons of profit while being a turd on fire...yeah, I bet he does.
@Trai_Dep: I like X3 too. it was too final for a franchise and we were cheated out of the Jean Grey, but still, it was interesting, in that we-found-a-cure-for-[mutant|homosexuality]-now-what way.
X-Men seems beyond repair. They're not gonna overwrite X3, but they killed off or marginalized like 5 major characters. Clearly a reboot is in order, & clearly that reboot needs Maggot & Lifeguard in the line-up.
@ingenieur: It'd be fun if they wiped X3 (without even the dignity of a mention or retcon attempt) then skip Magneto (he's great; McKellen's superb, but let's take a break).
Remember the vibe that New Mutants vs Hellions Emma Frost had? Something like that. Only not too much exposition on the Hellfires/Hellions, if they go there). Not the Wolverine Frost, obviously.
Throw in some Sentinels as an external threat, and we're good to go!
What annoys so much about the Ratners and their fanboys is that you CAN have action-packed films that aren't stoopid. What's great about the Singer-hating, Ratner-worshiping fanboys is that since subtext & complexity sail past their heads anyway, their butts will fill the seats, even for well-written films.
@Lloyd: It'd be pretty awesome if he was 13-16ish.
Just to outrage the stick-in-the-muds freaking out over a 100-year-old "15-year-old" who chain-smokes cigars.
Considering what a total load of crap the Xmen movies were, the studios should go in an entirely new direction.. with someone who paid attention to the books and the storylines and the canon and not just making it up as he goes along.
@Eridani: Count me in for a third. Superman Returns was a stupendous reboot that overstepped what were the weaker films in the franchise and gave fans something to be excited about and debate for years in the future, what a reoot usually does.
@spidyredneckjedi: Yup.
Besides Kryptonite, what is Superman helpless against? Not much anything, except love, and the responsibility he has to a son he must let go, for his own good.
Singer got it. He did an awesome job.
Yes This is ahunk of shit.Rebooting a series that was rebooted from a series shows just how few brain cells are left in Hollywood the land of greed and corporate shit.

And while typing this I just realized those were all the second movies in a series. Odd coincidence?
Maybe this means Iron Man 2 will also be off the chain?
What am I saying? It has WAR MACHINE! OF COURSE IT'S GOING TO ROCK!
And ScarJo never hurts either.

There's actually a lot more pieces out there, including the upgraded Cylons, who look absolutely badass.
