I thought they said the First Class title was going to be (basically) the new mutants- as in, the first class of Xavier's school to be trained as warriors, as opposed to the current students who are just being educated in a sanctuary.
Clearly, "First Class" makes more sense as the original 5 X-Men, but how the hell are you going to pull that off now that 2 out of 5 are children? Angel and Iceman were part of the original group with Ms marvel, Beast and Cyclops.
It would be nice to see something with a bunch of Warren Ellis pseudoscience in it and less Wolverine (and more Cyclops! Cyclops forever! Mebbe Jake Gyllenhaal? or - no one punch me - Zac Efron?).
@Perhaps Not: I would punch you, but you're right. Cyclops needs to be a charismatic actor or he'll always appear underused, since the character doesn't have a 'hey look at me!' personality.
Help me out as I'm having trouble tracking down the quote, but I believe Xavier, in the movies, referred to one of the main trio (Cyclops, Storm, and Jean...I think Jean) as "one of my first students". X-Men First Class is supposed to be about the first group of students at Xavier's school (according to /Film). So it would make sense to see those three at a very young age. And of course, Wolverine can make an appearance at any age.
Of course canon counts for nothing, previous movies even less so, but it wouldn't be impossible to imagine that Gambit could be an elder member of the crew, given his place in the Wolverine Origins timeline.
@tipsymongoose: Yeah, I'm glad he's back, but I'm sad it's First Class. X3 didn't quite do irrevocable damage--everything (even the supposed deaths) can be rectified in ways that stay true to the comics (introducing Mr Sinister, Apocalypse, and/or the Hellfire Club can solve most of their problems).
While I'm all for Singer to return, the thought of a prequel has me less than excited. He's already managed to set up the team quite well in the first two movies, so what story really needs to be told? I'd rather see a new story, even with a (mostly) new team (yes, we can leave Wolvie out), although I do understand picking up from Ratner's mess would be difficult.
Pro's: The bizarre melange of drug-addled shaky-cam, psychedelic electro music, and a talking flute will blend fairly well with the initial concept of the film.
Cons: Jason Statham as a man-sized puppet. #transformers
The only one who doesn't belong on this list is McG. The guy is a competent craftsman, but he has no personal style. There's nothing distinctive about him at all. That's why the only thing you can do with "McG vs Dollhouse" is go with a Charlie's Angels gag. With McG there's no there there. He's in the same class of bland journeyman hack as Brett Ratner. Not that there's anything wrong with that. #transformers

I'm pretty sure it will not be an origins movie.

I'm less interested in seeing young Cyclops/Storm/etc than I am in seeing some Apocalypse or Cable.

Hopefully Dougherty and Harris do a passover of someone else's script.

I like how people complain Joss Whedon has to make his characters miserable, and completely the opposite about Abrams.
Christopher Nolan's GI Joe

I detect some subtext. Some repressed dislike. I'm not sure what it is, but...
