Robby could be found, dismantled and re-built, found in Statis or whatever.... just DON'T change him! It wouldn't be the same. Robby could 'fit in' just about anywhere and to see him 'grow' and 'learn' a new environment would be tre' cool!

Funny that J. Michael Straczynski is on this project given that he payed homage to Forbidden Planet by creating the "great Machine" underneath Epsilon 3 in his Babylon 5 series.

If there must be a remake, at least JMS is scripting it.

However, there's always the studio choice of a bad director to screw up a perfectly good concept. Take McG or Brett Ratner, for example.

    Yes!

I've been looking for this for years. I've lately even begun drawing updated versions of Robby in my spare time.

On the whole I'm not really in favor of remakes, but in this case, I believe the film deserves an update. This was a high-concept film marred by the lackluster effects of the period. Forbidden Planet NEEDS a scary Id monster, not a Disney cartoon. Plus, we know JMS holds this movie in high regard: The Great Machine from Babylon 5 is a tribute to the Krell machine. But please God let them keep the original comic relief ("nothing to do here but throw rocks at cans... and you gotta bring your own cans" "and put guards on the guards" "will 60 gallons do?" etc.).

Yea... but who could ever replace Ann Francis?

Cause damn she was hot back then.... and she was a client of a professional photo lab that I worked at in LA... she used to send in all of the Forbidden Planet promo shots of her and Robbie.

Considering the fact that EVERYTHING is going to be re-made eventually, I'm a little glad that the project is in the hands of J. Michael Straczynski & co., and not some dick who has no Sci-Fi mojo going for him.

That said, they better do it justice, or my Id-monster's gonna hunt their asses-down and break their watchacallit coil...

I'm cautiously optimistic. Who wouldn't want to see a "moster of the id" with today's special fx? I bet they really drum up the creepiness factor in Morbius' relationship with his daughter ("What's a bathing suit?")

    Mmm...bathing suit.

I still haven't got around to seeing the remake of flight of the phoenix, and I still prefer the shop around the corner to you've got mail, the list goes on.

Why do this? If they want to do "Shakespeare...in space" there's plenty of other material to draw from.

I had been thinking about this for the last year or two, and I think it _could_ be a great remake IF they kept the original story intact and just updated the special effects, costumes, and tweaked the dialogue slightly (no "gollies" or "goshes" from the cook for example)...but they won't do that. They'll completely bumfuggle the thing and it will be almost unrecognizable, like War of the Worlds. Ugh.

No no no no no!! Why oh why must movies like this be remade at all? There is something about the original versions of movies like this and "The Day The Earth Stood Still" that are totally of their era and can't BE recreated. Just rent/buy/watch the darn original ones already! :(
