Looked awesome in the marketing. I dug the concept.

Saw it in the theater and it damn-well sucked.

Everyone here is so perplexed as to why it bombed...

How 'bout this? It bombed cos the plot was executed through ridiculously illogical devices and the ending was beyond contrived.

I love sci-fi/fantasy. LOVE it.

But I won't eat a shit sandwich just because you stick a couple of spaceman antennae in the top of it.

I hope that answers your questions about why all the other grownups could give a fuck about this movie on dvd.

@Richard Spock: It's interesting that half the comments here are from people who loved this film, like I did. And the other half are like yours. Obviously there's a wide divergence of opinion here. But then again, some people loved Benjamin Button.

This movie was absolutely BURIED in Canada. Not a single commercial on or in any medium. The only place it even got mentioned were in the newspaper reviews. In the city I live, it was in theaters for maybe a single week.

I don't know what happened to it. But I really really look forward to the DVD.

@Pope John Peeps II: interesting.. round here, we didn't even get it the local theaters..

2 drive ins (1 single, 1 double screen-extreme value! usually went on Sundays which is $10 a carload night. got to see Wall-E, Dark Night, Mummy 3 and Hellboy 2 for basically $2.50 a movie) and the usual multi-screen expensive place and none of them ran Ember.

I was excited about it, but the reviews were not that kind. Only 61% on the rotten tomato meter.

You know, I've never liked extras. I'd rather just watch the movie. I've seen every Simpsons episode a hundred times, so one day I turned on the commentary... I found it neither interesting nor funny. And thus my love for extras died.

That doesn't even make sense. There were so many featurettes before this film came out. It sounds like there was some bad blood in the production of this movie for a studio to basically write it off like this.
