Wheddon should pitch Dollhouse to the USA Network, or (even better) to Showtime. Broadcast networks will never let shows develop anyway. Cable, on the other hand ... Fox would have axed True Blood after the third episode.

I guess I missed the discussion about how the recent lawsuit effects this show's ability to use Clark's backstory.

Let me 'splain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up:

The show has become a travesty to the Superman character/mythos.

(And this from someone who liked it at first).

The writer's at this point can't help themselves. Everyone's a hero before Supes, every part of the Superman mythology appears before Supes, and now the World Really Doesn't Need Superman.

Soooo, they are literally doing everything from being Superman in the comics EXCEPT ACTUALLY MAKING HIM SUPERMAN?

Good god. I'm glad I left this show. Such a terrible waste. Note to aspiring writers: never arbitrarily constrain yourself with superficial rules just so you think you look cool.

@TemporalSword: to be fair, that was the point of the show. His life before Superman. But now it's just too silly. He's too old and it's been going on too long and a writing staff too unimaginative to come up with a better name than "The Red-and-Blue Blur" needs never to work anywhere ever again. I'm surprised they didn't call Impulse the "Run Fast" man.

How come he is only Major Zod, why not a general? Krypton is already blown up real good; I don't think the Kryptonian army is in any position to promote somebody to general.

Of course I'll watch, I've been doing it out of habit for years. When you have so much time invested in a show, it's hard not to follow it through to the end jsut to get some sort of closure (which relects negatively on not just me, but today's media-obsessed culture as well). It's just upsetting to know that with 8 season gone, the show has never hit any sort of stride. The early seasons, which contained the most straight-forward formula-based episodes, were the most entertaining. As the writers tried to creats arcs, they seemed to forget that Superman is a character about hope and the show has grown bleaker by the episode. I used to think that this reflected Tom Welling's growning frustration at being trapped in the role, but since he keeps coming back year after year I've had to review that stance.

All that being said, this last season was the best in ages. With so many actors leaving the show, the writers had more freedom to go in different directions, and try new things. The only real problem is that no one seems to know who to write complicated characters (although, to her credit, the great Alison Mack sure knows how to bring life to a role that's been written so one-note). Complicated characters are ones who often show contradictions within themselves, the writers seem to be of the notion that complicated means angsty when something challenges a character's single-mindedness.

Will Zod be a major threat? That depends on whether the writers do the character justice, unlike how they handled DOOMSDAY (talk about anti-climactic)... At least this provides Clark with the opportunity to physically see what it means to be Kryptonian, and compare it to his human upbringing. Let's hope this sets up the closure the show desperately needs.
