I'd rather them make plots cleverer and characters more interesting, and having someone at least *attempting* to plug plot holes and change goofy dialog before shooting starts.

No, from what I've heard each theater got one version of the Clue ending, and there was no vote process involved.

On DVD you have the option of running a specific ending, or all three in succession. When I first watched it on VHS, obviously you only got the triple-dose. From what I understand, it sounds like only the third ending actually fits the clues that were layed out in the rest of the movie, but the other two don't have to cheat much to work.
