I'll look forward to his book and he has my sympathy on getting deals pulled. It can seem so capricious and you often never really know why it happened. That being said, you are allowed ONE, UNO, (1), fan film, (Online...when was the last time you watched a film online? No one cares. Its free marketing, not a license threat.) Okay, we noticed you, what else you got?

I'm glad to see the man pushed out to his own intellectual properties. Maybe his work will stand or tank on its own merits instead of fanboy bottom feeding.

Dead End was visually neat. Script-wise? Shit on celluloid.

This comment thread has an awful lot of bitchiness in it, on both sides of the fence... Both sides have good points, though. Warner was somewhat justified in what they did, but Collora was also a bit of a dumbass. He put a lot of effort into it, but he doesn't seem like he was very smart about it. Futzing with other people's IPs will almost always bite you in the ass, in the end.

That's always the risk you take when working with someone else's ideas. I thought he was lucking not being issued a cease and desist order from showing the first one. Comic Con is HUGE and they are making money off it, it surprises me that he had the balls to do it in the first place without permission and with his own money. 30k would be better spent on your own (copy righted) ideas shown at actual film festivals. Blair Witch was just done with 22k, Robert Townsend financed Hollywood Shuffle on his own credit cards.

Kevin Smith produced and played a part in Clerks, a full movie, albeit black and white and non-action, for less than $30,000. It won a Sundance Award.

Robert Rodriguez produced, shot and scored El Mariachi, a full time, action packed movie which won a Sundance Award, for $7,000.

Sandy Collora made a mediocre short fan film, spent most of his attention on costumes, and filmed what? Two fights and a dialogue? For $30,000.

And let's face it, the only good thing you can say about the film was that it pitted a threeway crossover and that the costumes were good.

I saw World's Finest, and Grayson, and I have to say the only good thing Collora has is having the -wow this character is finally on screen- effect.

You can't make a full movie just with cool cameos.

The actor who played the Joker is named Andrew Koenig, actually, and yes, he is the son of Walter Koenig.

He does a lot of things, but in his free time he actually films and participates in super funny comedian Jimmy Pardo's weekly podcast.

@Annalee Newitz: Kevin smith spent less than $30K on "Clerks" and has a hugely successful career. This guy sounds like he squandered a lot of time, money and good will on projects that would lead nowhere.

If he wanted to have fun and make some cool fan films, good on him. But thinking that will get you a career in filmmaking is akin to thinking your sweetass tattoo will land you a gallery opening.
