A better choice for villain would be Chemistro! He could turn Iron Man into Peanut Brittle Man.

I hate/detest having multiple villains in a movie. Especially if they're unconnected. Some movie makers feel they have to throw everything in at the expense of character development and then it just becomes a mindless slugfest. (NB Batman Returns/Forever/and Robin also SpiderMan 3)

Give me one good solid villain or at the very least a team of villains who are already thematically connected.

@Hotscot: Returns simply had the Penguin and Max Scheck(?) providing backup. Catwoman was never really a villian. And producer Avi Arad insisted on Venom for SM3, which led to the writers running out of time to finish the scripts. If he hadn't, we would've had Sandman and New Goblin and a romantic subplot and that's it.

We do not speak of the Schumaker films.

I like the idea of a Russian storyline, with Black Widow (maybe), Crimson Dynamo, and maybe a little Titanium Man action?

I also like the idea of a Justin Hammer plot. His whole schtick is that he hires all kinds of low-lifes and gives them crazy superpowered technology so they can sabotage his business rivals, so you could have a wide range of villains showing up to attack Stark (even Whiplash).

What I don't like is the idea of both of those plots shoehorned into the same movie.

...and was never mentioned in the original film. Sorry, call me a nitpick, but with all the buildup for Mandarin in the first film, why is it that they're calling out the other baddies?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Mickey Rourke in power armor and San Rockwell in, well hell, anything, but I think some attention should be paid to the villain they spent the whole first film building up.

@Smeagol92055: I'm not quite up to date on the canonical storyline, but I'm guessing that SHIELD should be coming into play any day now? I don't recall seeing any mention of the good guys' side as of yet; considering that Samuel L Jackson was kinda busy playing an octopus I guess they wouldn't announce his Fury role.

@crashedpc: SHIELD was heavily featured in Iron Man; there was a whole secondary plot about them trying to sit Tony down for an interview, which in my opinion was one of the only really weak points of the whole film. Somehow, SHIELD came off as a bunch of incompetent boobs who couldn't find their own asses with both hands and a flashlight held by a proctologist.

@Smeagol92055: Nitpick! The mention of the Ten Rings group & showing one guy w/ a ring doesn't really count as plot "buildup", it's an easter egg at best. The Mandarin wasn't even mentioned, so how did they spend the whole movie building him up? I imagine they will give a ring to the main bad guy in the next film in the same manner. Favreau has said that the Mandarin, in any incarnation, wouldn't appear until the third film.

Blehh. I'm sorry, Iron Man was fantastic, yes, but why the hell does everything have to be a trilogy these days? What real character development can we hope to see? What, the second film will have Tony become an alcoholic, and the third will have him get clean? No thanks.
