Might not be a ratings grab - that may just be a coincidence.

Or am I the only one who remembered that Naren Shankar worked on TNG, DS9 and Voyager? And for TNG and DS9 she obviously worked alongside and knew very well Ron Moore. Add to that the fact that he's probably not all that busy right now, what with BSG over and such.

Yes I know he's got some other series in development right now but in development doesn't mean "actually producing right now". And it does mean "less busy than he would have been on BSG".

This is all about who you know.

@rileyjam514: Nope, and Naren's been working on CSI for ages. People like to work with their friends.

Ol' Ron probably said, "geez, what am I gonna do now", his buddy goes "c'mon over here and play at my house. Bring your toys and we'll have them play with my toys".

With the BSG folk behind it, it's going to be better than when most TV shows do the "look at the weirdos" con episodes.

Plus, CSI was remarkably even-handed about the furries! I saw one of the guys they consulted talking about how the making of that episode went. He was telling the writers all about furries and no matter what stories he told, they'd say, "Sorry, not weird enough."

The look on his face (he was in regular clothes) was wonderous as he remembered being told by mundane beautiful people that he was not weird enough.

Although the pic with this article is a little confusing since half those people aren't on the show any more.

I wonder if there will be any passing references to Laurence Fishburne's fannish connections? Will he find red and blue pills?

I'm voting OMG and some LOL.

@Evil Tortie's Mom: Even-handed? So the conversation goes like: "Tell us about this." "Ok, here's how it is." "Mmm... No, you have to be bigger freaks than that. We're going to make you look worse than what you said." That's even-handed? I would like to call BS, please.

Now CSI:NY's use of Second Life, that was fairly even-handed. Even built themselves an area in-world.

@shini: Did you even SEE the episode? Grissom was very sympathetic to the furries, and the murder had nothing to do with their lifestyle, it was just a love triangle that led to a traffic accident. Turned out to be much less weird than many of the "normal people" cases.

Any other show would have lambasted the furries and made them look much worse than they are, not gone to the trouble to find out and show that they're just people too.

The Second Life thing was good, I'll give you that; it was a lot less porny than SL really is!

While the Bones episode was kind of...crappy, I enjoyed Psych's episode at at comic book convention.

@ComradeLenin: "Psych" doesn't get the credit it deserves. It's funnier than 99.9% of all the sitcoms out there, plus so many of their pop culture references are SF-ish. It's not ground-breaking, but it's consistently entertaining.

@Evil Tortie's Mom: I think Psych faces a bit of an uphill battle because it inescapably gets compared to Monk, and that's a tough act to follow. Judged on its own, though, or compared to most of the junk on TV, Psych is a lot of fun.

Although the Bones episode was sub-par, I did like the Comicon-like Numb3rs episode last year. It was great to see Wil Wheaton playing his own antithesis. I only wish they'd given him an evil Spock beard.

@dOk: No, they're so far ahead in the ratings that they can afford to write a whole episode around a cable sci-fi show that much of their audience has either never heard of or still thinks it stars robot dogs.

Wow, not only do they have some BSG cameos, but the writers are responsible for some of THE best BSG episodes (and that's saying something).

I still like the original CSI. Larry Fishburne was a good pick to replace Grissom, and it's hard to believe the show is connected in anyway to CSI: Miami and the "Sunglasses of Justice".
