Interface was really a low point in the man's writing. Yech... The only one worse is "The Big U". Shame on Stephenson for dragging that one out after he became famous.
@Grey_Area: For what I read, he didn't disowned it for years... he still has, but had it republished because people were paying hundreds of dollars for it on e-bay, and he preferred people paying a fair price for a novel that sucks (in his opinion) than people paying obscene prices for the same novel.
Makes me wonder what happened to your first edition :D
@BullfightsOnAcid: I agree. CRYPTONOMICON was one of the best books I've ever read. But I was hard pressed to find any SF elements in it. Sure, it stimulated my fannish receptors. But that may have been the Perl source code.
@crashedpc /sarcasm: Historical fictional thriller? Don't get me wrong, I LOVED that book, but it wasn't REALLY scifi. Everything was completely plausible using pretty much any engineering talent.
@crashedpc /sarcasm: Yes, Stephenson hasn't been sold as SF since The Diamond Age. You'll find the entire Baroque Cycle in the mainstream novels category of your local Borders.
